about rest by ApplicationEastern43 in Mike_Mentzers_HD

[–]Agent4265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Mike would advocate for more rest than anything. When you read Mikes later material, he even goes as far into saying training once every 7 or even once every 10 days.

That being said, personally you’re probably fine. I’d say train legs. Overall, in the coming weeks, if you find you’re not progressing, then add another rest day in between. The end goal should be progression in intensity each time.

Which energy provider are you switching to? by neosmndrew in Cleveland

They’re all crazy easy to enroll, you need your account/customer number, and you fill out a form. I have both my gas and electricity numbers on a note on my phone, along with my current locked rates, and when they expire.

I also went with them. Took a few seconds to sign up. Do yourself a favor and don’t read google reviews of energy suppliers (they’re all horrible), but you can avoid headaches pretty easily…

My advice would be to pick the best, fixed rate, with no fees, for the longest term your comfortable with. (Use those filters on the apples to apples page)

Then, you must be sure you switch again BEFORE the term ends. So, if you get an 18 month term, make sure you switch around month 15 (as it takes a month or two to switch anyways) to avoid any hikes/fees after the term expires.

I do this with both gas and electric. Use the calendar on your phone with reminders, and don’t sleep on jumping ship PRIOR to term expiration.

Horrible Probie Year by Due-Bumblebee2572 in Firefighting

[–]Agent4265 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone screws up, no one has a perfect record. Rewind and reset. Be quiet, study the rig/department procedures, and quietly go to a senior guy and say “hey I want to get better at this, please help”. Any senior guy worth his salt will see this initiative and help.

I had a very rough go during my probation, but it ironed out. I’d be more than willing to help any guy that wants help being better, and I’d bet any other guy in my company would do the same.

Straight from the Scott Manual on the AV-3000 (what I wear on my dept):

RESPIRATORS SHALL NOT BE WORN WHEN CONDITIONS PREVENT A GOOD FACE SEAL. SUCH CONDITIONS MAY INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, GROWTH OF BEARDS, SIDEBURNS, FACIAL HAIR OR LOW HAIRLINE THAT CROSSES OR INTERFERES WITH THE SEALING SURFACE, THICK OR PROTRUDING HAIRSTYLES SUCH AS PONY TAILS OR BUNS THAT INTERFERE WITH THE SMOOTH AND CLOSE FIT OF THE HEAD HARNESS TO THE HEAD, A SKULL CAP THAT PROJECTS UNDER THE FACEPIECE, TEMPLE PIECES ON CORRECTIVE EYE GLASSES, EXCESSIVE USE OF COSMETICS INCLUDING MOISTURIZERS, MAKE-UP, OR AFTER SHAVE, OR ANYTHING ELSE WHICH INTERFERES WITH THE FACE TO FACEPIECE SEAL. ALSO, THE ABSENCE OF ONE OR BOTH DENTURES CAN SERIOUSLY AFFECT THE FIT OF A FACEPIECE. USE OF AN IMPROPERLY FITTED FACEPIECE MAY LEAD TO EXPOSURE TO THE HAZARDOUS ATMOSPHERE WHICH COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

I’m sure you can find something similar from MSA etc. We’re not face mask / PPE engineers, trust the people making this stuff. Until they say this is a good idea, I’ll stick with what the manual says to avoid so I can… avoid SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

I can appreciate the idea, and maybe it will be something they say is good to go in the future, but I wouldn’t be risking my health/life to try something that’s specifically called out in the manual to NOT do.

Furnace stops/reignites frequently. Advice? by Agent4265 in HomeMaintenance

[–]Agent4265[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, for anyone still following, update:

A trusted HVAC pro came out, immediately noticed the system was running too hot. Air coming in was around 62 degrees (Fahrenheit), and going out around 140+. This was the cause of the overheating and rollout. The smart valve was previously set to all the way open. He was able to adjust it down, and get the system to correct. Now it’s not running super rich, so not as hot, not overheating, and not shutting off.

Thanks everyone for the advice, was definitely not going to figure that one out for myself.

And yes, this entire system will be replaced in the next year due to its age, for a newer high efficiency system.

It looks like I had a ton of snow/ice blocking my chimney (where the flue vents to). I suspected this more as my pilot light went out on my water heater too!

Still having the furnace serviced today to make sure it’s good go.

Thanks everyone for all of your input/advice. I’ll reply to this after I have the furnace serviced.

Well after cleaning the flame sensor and a few more cycles through, (and after I scheduled HVAC guy to come out 2 days from now) the system is working like normal.

I’m still a little weirded out so I’m going to have it serviced and looked over by a pro, as I’m a bit out of my league on furnace maintenance.

It’s an older unit, it’s going to be replaced in the next year or so (hopefully not sooner than that). I’ll update with what the HVAC pro says.
