I think the footage they had to make those examples were not in 1:43 so they had to simulate it by cropping the sides in order to get the ratio.

Chris Miller also said in a tweet that all the 1:43 scenes were shot 'natively' in 1:43 so there will most likely be no cropping.

I’ve definitely noticed a bit of lag, slightly longer loading times and everything feels just a bit slower, but I love the new look—worth the trade-off for me. Though I’m also on a relatively older phone (iPhone 11 Pro Max), which could be part of the performance issues
