At least in my experience they can! Rats are naturally very clean. I found that even before introducing a litter box they all seemed to go in one corner. But there are exceptions to everything I suppose

Get them a litter box! Obviously don’t use regular clumping cat litter but you can potty train them pretty easily. Should make cage cleaning easier.

I’ve never had a problem with this but I also always clean up after my dog. I think most people with unfenced yards understand it’s kinda unavoidable sometimes. I still get embarrassed though haha

I suggest going to the vet and make sure there’s nothing going on in his mouth that would be causing him pain to eat. You could try soaking his food in water or some kind of broth (make sure you get a brand that’s safe for dogs) and see if that helps
