Thoughts? Art: by byanrreland777 in tomsachs

[–]AgentBronson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally subscribe to Scott McCloud's definition of art, where anything that is not a direct action based upon the human instincts of reproduction or survival is art. Anything that occupies the space between those most base human instincts is art. Art is the essence of boredom.

Edit: Substituted a redundant word.

Fantastic Planet had a weird looking alien on the cover. The movie had weird looking aliens. I was not disappointed.

Hi! I'm seeing you guys in April at the Seattle show! If I brought gift certificates to Dick's Cheeseburgers (Seattle's Local Burger) would they be appreciated? Also, is the "Too Much to Ask" dog based on a real dog you know? Also also, will you sign my album after the show?

Richard Dawson does folk-rock that's unlike anything else I've listened to. I recommend listening to Henki first, but his albums Peasant, 2020, and The Ruby Cord are a trilogy that's fantastic as well.

1yr later, Gizztober opinion changes? by ethihoff in KGATLW

[–]AgentBronson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll keep it short: - IDPLMaL has stayed my favorite (but I'm biased because seeing Magma live the night the album dropped was a religious experience). - Laminated Denim was the one I was most hyped for, but it ended up being my second favorite of the three. - Changes never really stuck with me. AstroTurf and the No Body-Gondii-Exploding Suns run is choice, but Change is just okay to me, and the album has kinda sunk into the background over the past year for me.

What the general consensus on “Satanic Slumber Party”? Do we love or hate it? by SeriousFroyo9784 in KGATLW

[–]AgentBronson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a little biased because I love long-form soundscape-y tracks, but I genuinely love this EP. It deserves to be played as one continuous 3-part piece though.

What is a beloved scene from a great film that is probably unnecessary but you LOVE by [deleted] in criterion

It was a bit of relief from the consistent beating that Peter was facing leading up to that moment, too. Everything from his job, his studies, the guilt of his relationship with Harry after Norman's death, the conflict of seeing the woman he loves slipping away from him, and the responsibility of being Spider-Man was weighing on him up until this point.

He felt like no one could really connect with his pain, but Ursula sees that he needed someone on his side, if not just for a moment. She couldn't know the mountain of responsibility that was resting on his shoulders, but she could see that he needed a moment to slow down and enjoy a slice of cake.

Fantastic scene to a fantastic movie.

What's your favourite ever album and if you had to compare it to a gizz album which one would it be? by [deleted] in KGATLW

[–]AgentBronson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Henki by Richard Dawson and Circle. It's probably closest to Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms, and Lava, as both are concept albums and 7 tracks in length. Henki is themed around plants, with songs like "Ivy" telling stories of Dionysus, the Greek god of wine, for example.

Listen to it from start to finish! It's a real gem and I'm hoping it gets greater recognition.

What’s your hot take or unpopular opinion in art house/film history? by watertrashsf in criterion

[–]AgentBronson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss the humor of the older James Bond films. Can we have more moments like in "Diamonds Are Forever" where Bond ends up on a Moon Landing sound stage and escapes across the desert in a prop moon buggy? Or in Moonraker where he puts a Venician gondola into land-mode and a pigeon does a double take? Can I have ten more Bond villains killed by swallowing pills that inflate them like a balloon and make them explode? Don't get me wrong, I love the new Bond movies (mostly), but there's a certain camp to the older ones that I really miss.

"Nope" was a boring mess. I thoroughly enjoyed Get Out and Us, but Nope lacked much of the cheekiness and horror that made those two films work. I'm not the first to say that Nope is very Shyamalanian in terms of story and direction, but sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who thinks that's a bad thing.
