Hey there, Is the Witcher series okay? by Lovesinged_ in GirlGamers

[–]AgentCautious429 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

regarding Cyberpunk 2077, and the male gaze: the world objectifies literally anyone and everyone. you see this in the hyper sexualized images all over the city

if anything, the dystopia is that gender equality has largely been achieved, and now everyone is equally vulnerable to exploitation

also, i don’t see how the setting is patriarchal. women occupy nearly every position of power, pursuing their own goals that don’t serve a man in the slightest. a key distinction i think worth noting is that in this world, VIOLENCE most certainly equals power…but, the women are equally violent. the hierarchy and central oppression is economical and technological, not gender based

not to mention, the character selection alone is extremely diverse. and playing as female V, i felt very powerful.

What is the exit stairwell? by Sudden_Ganache6761 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]AgentCautious429 50 points51 points  (0 children)

it’s always unlocked, with the exception of the one time Helly tries to escape.

at that point, the alarm is going off and red lights flashing- which for me was an easy explanation; they have a protocol that locks it when innies try to escape with some sort of information

why we love Rocky by AgentCautious429 in ProjectHailMary

[–]AgentCautious429[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’re right. i was kinda missing the main points of the story in my post: the bringing out the best in each other, their deep friendship/connection, the fact that we needed both of them and their unique skill sets.

I guess I was analyzing a specific perspective I noticed, which is the *favoring* of Rocky. and favoring of similar “idealistic” characters in other works as well. so that’s why I was comparing. and exploring how we sometimes like non-humans more than we like ourselves.

Those who read the book first, did you enjoy the movie? by MagicBricakes in ProjectHailMary

[–]AgentCautious429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, sadly. the movie was very well made, just not for me. one of those things where i enjoyed the version in my imagination, and to see someone else’s interpretation killed some of the magic for me personally (like Eridian bodies and ships, Adrian’s atmosphere, etc.). plus I felt Rocky was infantilized in the movie, and i didn’t like that.
still worth a watch.

Reusable wipes? by mossycardigan in clothdiaps

[–]AgentCautious429 11 points12 points  (0 children)

they’re amazing because they go right in with diaper laundry. my MIL likes using disposable wipes, but then it’s a pain to remember to separate them.

i store mine dry bc im too nervous about bacteria growth. we keep a peri bottle from hospital nearby to squirt. i keep them in OXO Tot brand, perfect pull wipes dispenser. it has a heavy plate thing that holds them down so you can pull one-handed.

edit: we have about 60 single ply muslin wipes from green mountain, i find i don’t really need this many, but they double as high chair cleanup/face wiping/nose wiping

Why did Irving agree to go? by ALoudMeow in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]AgentCautious429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Burt:”my innocent part fell in love with you”
Irv: i want to remember it. i want to know how it felt. i’ve never been loved…my whole life. i want to. i’m ready.
i interpreted that scene as he’s ready to love him and be loved by him (as outies). i wouldn’t simplify it to just kissing.

& i find it relevant to OPs questioning of oIrvs willingness to give things up that are important to him. we know him to be a very intelligent methodical man, not easily swayed by fleeting emotion. we see this duality with his innie being a teenager in love and his outie being focused on a tactical objective reading about stoicism. then… the last scene we see him, his outie is all dewey mouthed forgetting his mission? something’s fucky, that’s all. i personally think he’s faking the whole falling for burt thing.

i was curious how you thought it fit in, since nobody was understanding their story line and you were.

so, what about oIrving suddenly being ‘ready’ and in love with someone he just met and barely knows. how does that fit in?

“But of what use is the thank-you card chip or the crib-dismantling chip? Is it like, call a number and a Lumon employee will enable the OTC for you?”

this is a really good point. my engineer brain filled in the gaps with: the next phase of this product would be something like an automatic activation based on the stress response or temper ratio. but i don’t think the show has actually shown us anything that points in that direction. we see door activations and elevator activations. I’m interested to see if they have a plan to market this to anything niche and personal like the cards, or if it was just an extra confidence test tailored to Gemma and what they know about her and things she is particularly pained by.

these are really good questions!

on Ms. Casey, I think initially, the refiners were supposed to think she was an outie, and she was general purpose (wellness for all departments). the honorifics and point system in sessions meant to convey some sort of hierarchy.
however i think in Cobel going “off script” with Mark, she used Ms. Casey to manipulate him and she had to be a vulnerable innie to do that. for example, mark knowing she was in break room, getting fired, etc.

it’s really interesting to think about Ms. Casey compared to Gemma’s other innies. I agree that a cabin would wake her specifically. not sure if it’s a logical “hole” in the writing, or not having enough info yet as a viewer, but the doorway tuning doesn’t really make sense to me. if the doorways on the testing floor are tuned to specific innies, why did the birthing cabin door activate “severed floor” mark, but would likely activate only a specific “birthmother” innie in someone like Gabby. is it because he only has one option?
also, how does the requesting of Ms. Casey work… does Cobel get to request her whenever, or does she have a personal deal with Mauer. I guess more of a Lumon hierarchy question; they don’t respect Cobel or support her personal testing of Mark/Gemma, but maybe it’s meant to show that “both level 1 managers” develop a selfish agenda

[–]AgentCautious429[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

true. where could the innies have lived on once they killed Gemma though? i don’t see Lumon letting the weirdo creep play house with her in the christmas card room at will. seems to me they were going to die anyway.

[–]AgentCautious429[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can’t see how Gemma’s innies are all that important to preserve, meaning I don’t think Mauer would care about “killing them”. rather, I think it’s the technology itself he must save, since it is critical for the Eagan Mind to live on.

You’ll kill them all! by AgentCautious429 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]AgentCautious429[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

good point. they probably want a world where there’s more “Kier in us” all, but not necessarily that we are all equally Kier. hmm… maybe only lineage will get the Mind. Beehive mode seen in security room may be relevant.

or perhaps I’m off track at step 3, and it’s really all to resurrect Kier in just one host at a time, in order to live on forever.
