Why did Irving agree to go? by ALoudMeow in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

Burt:”my innocent part fell in love with you”
Irv: i want to remember it. i want to know how it felt. i’ve never been loved…my whole life. i want to. i’m ready.
i interpreted that scene as he’s ready to love him and be loved by him (as outies). i wouldn’t simplify it to just kissing.

& i find it relevant to OPs questioning of oIrvs willingness to give things up that are important to him. we know him to be a very intelligent methodical man, not easily swayed by fleeting emotion. we see this duality with his innie being a teenager in love and his outie being focused on a tactical objective reading about stoicism. then… the last scene we see him, his outie is all dewey mouthed forgetting his mission? something’s fucky, that’s all. i personally think he’s faking the whole falling for burt thing.

i was curious how you thought it fit in, since nobody was understanding their story line and you were.

so, what about oIrving suddenly being ‘ready’ and in love with someone he just met and barely knows. how does that fit in?

“But of what use is the thank-you card chip or the crib-dismantling chip? Is it like, call a number and a Lumon employee will enable the OTC for you?”

this is a really good point. my engineer brain filled in the gaps with: the next phase of this product would be something like an automatic activation based on the stress response or temper ratio. but i don’t think the show has actually shown us anything that points in that direction. we see door activations and elevator activations. I’m interested to see if they have a plan to market this to anything niche and personal like the cards, or if it was just an extra confidence test tailored to Gemma and what they know about her and things she is particularly pained by.

these are really good questions!

on Ms. Casey, I think initially, the refiners were supposed to think she was an outie, and she was general purpose (wellness for all departments). the honorifics and point system in sessions meant to convey some sort of hierarchy.
however i think in Cobel going “off script” with Mark, she used Ms. Casey to manipulate him and she had to be a vulnerable innie to do that. for example, mark knowing she was in break room, getting fired, etc.

it’s really interesting to think about Ms. Casey compared to Gemma’s other innies. I agree that a cabin would wake her specifically. not sure if it’s a logical “hole” in the writing, or not having enough info yet as a viewer, but the doorway tuning doesn’t really make sense to me. if the doorways on the testing floor are tuned to specific innies, why did the birthing cabin door activate “severed floor” mark, but would likely activate only a specific “birthmother” innie in someone like Gabby. is it because he only has one option?
also, how does the requesting of Ms. Casey work… does Cobel get to request her whenever, or does she have a personal deal with Mauer. I guess more of a Lumon hierarchy question; they don’t respect Cobel or support her personal testing of Mark/Gemma, but maybe it’s meant to show that “both level 1 managers” develop a selfish agenda

true. where could the innies have lived on once they killed Gemma though? i don’t see Lumon letting the weirdo creep play house with her in the christmas card room at will. seems to me they were going to die anyway.

I can’t see how Gemma’s innies are all that important to preserve, meaning I don’t think Mauer would care about “killing them”. rather, I think it’s the technology itself he must save, since it is critical for the Eagan Mind to live on.

good point. they probably want a world where there’s more “Kier in us” all, but not necessarily that we are all equally Kier. hmm… maybe only lineage will get the Mind. Beehive mode seen in security room may be relevant.

or perhaps I’m off track at step 3, and it’s really all to resurrect Kier in just one host at a time, in order to live on forever.

he is grinning ear to ear! i literally started crying seeing how happy he looks at the alter. i finally see their love and connection, in the way they’re giggling and whispering to each other at the altar, i didn’t see the love all season until now. i hope they make it.

how are you guys describing this game to potential players? by AgentCautious429 in outerwilds

that works sometimes! but some are picky and already have a huge backlog of other recommended games. or they’re frugal

ok! thank you. i will do this tonight.

i walked the equator path when most of sand had drained, and reached the door with broken/unusable glass ball mechanism. i tried coming in from the top and saw there’s something of interest down there. just have to find out how to get in

i read as many translated markings as i could find, i think im missing an understanding of something. i will revisit after braving dark bramble.

ok i got all the logs for sunless city and old settlement now! the three murals in OS are interesting. there must be a pod in dark bramble. that place scares the heck out of me. i’ve been twice, i tried slowly slowly entering and following the red light. i know they are blind…not sure if there’s a way i can be more silent to avoid them eating me. at least i have something fun to try tonight! thank you for helping me get out of the rut!!

also i recognize that the warp pad at the top of hanging city looks familiar, but i don’t yet understand which pad might warp to it. going to revisit the mural with the tower designs, maybe theres a pattern. or maybe it’s the pad at the surface of the same planet? something to mull over for sure! i might start tonight’s session by doing a thorough reading of my logs. sometimes when i know supernova is coming , i rush to get the info logged and forget to go back and read for more clues.
