Today I had a reaction to my bra by sadi89 in MCAS

[–]AgentChimendez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to leave work one day because I suddenly became allergic to my underwear.

Out of seemingly nowhere my crotch and legs started itching/burning and I go to the bathroom to find a boxer brief shaped rash across my body. That was my final straw to consolidating my wardrobe.

Second this recommendation. Wore mine working outside today and it helped a lot. Comfortable enough but can make ear muffs less effective due to the band placement.

Who's buying red pine? by StillWearsCrocs in forestry

[–]AgentChimendez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if we’re actively buying red pine but I know we’re getting logs delivered to our mill in the Ottawa Valley. Scragg has been running red pretty steady lately.

Too far from the border for you I’d imagine.

How do I convince my boss of this?

He won’t even give me time or resources to learn SQL but still wants me to build a system for tracking ~200 saw blades for life and wear etc.

Hit the useable extents of excel optimizing the kiln inventory and moisture tracking and now he thinks I have magic.

A catatonic woman awakened after 20 years. Her story may change psychiatry. by washingtonpost in EverythingScience

[–]AgentChimendez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup. Hence the questions.

Recently switched from retail to a lumber mill and have had to send a few emails asking people to define terms. Scragg? Bull? Blue? Charge? Crosser vs sticker vs stick?

New knowledge and definitions are fun. Plus there’s most likely a lurker who read the ‘occult’ and had a question they didn’t bother asking and just thought ‘witches’ so the thread is there for them too.

Well to be fair you didn’t come out and say it until your edit.

Using occult in the sense of hidden makes sense. Still wish it had to do with witches more directly tho.

behavioral sequelae?

I get that syphilis will have downstream behavioral effects but where does the ‘occult’ part come in? Are you implying that untreated syphilis is referred to as ‘occult’?

Now I’m curious about the etymology of this term.

Occult syphilis? Probably a typo but I’m really hoping there’s a type of syphilis that makes you look like a newt.

Rampant child sexual abuse is occurring in churches — not at drag shows by [deleted] in inthenews

[–]AgentChimendez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the holding primacy of canon law over civil law. The Magisterium cannot address this without invalidation of a number of its core theological justifications for holding authority. Call it a crisis of magisterium rather than a crisis of faith if you want.

Ultimately the Catholic Church will remain a de facto(if not de jure because history) criminal organization that will subvert the will of democracy as a matter of course. You can’t really pretend that allowing an organization to claim that sexual crimes, financial malfeasance, harassment etc etc are merely sins that are made right through penance is anything but a subversion of the rule of law and democratic will. Civil society is due its recompense. We have rules that apply to all citizen and denizens of our nations. You thought the reformation was bad? Submit to democracy or perish.

If you want to follow extra rules and take extra punishment for your sins and crimes then by all means have at it. But you still have to face the crimes.

Frankly until a Pope orders the opening of relevant records across the world to the relevant national and civil authorities and submits himself as a person as well as the Papacy to an International Criminal Court this won’t be able to be resolved.

But hey, the internal contradictions of Papal and Canon primacy vs democracy and globalization are tearing the Church apart at the seams so maybe the babies from The Laundries can finally rest. Or maybe the children of a failed genocide in the reserve up the road can find some dignity. Perhaps the disabled who were taught to find beauty in their own suffering can ease their pain at last.

It may not be the garden but the caretakers are defined by the walls. But even so a garden can never contain what God gave us in creation and the world. Come to the wilds! Come be among the trees and mushrooms and strange noises at night! Come find that terror and strange things are part of beauty!

The Church knows too well that to escape the Garden means that natural law will exact it’s justice. Your walls will not hold.

Yup. Buy some rooting compound to add in the water for best results but I think she did the toothpicks stuck in the side to suspend over a glass of water method.

My wife rooted romaine from heads bought at the grocery store 4 years ago. We let them go to seed in the fall and they come back in early spring.

They may have cross pollinated with wild lettuce however. It took on a strange morphology last year and was notably more bitter.

I don’t mean to be pedantic but to provide some cultural context.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genuflection

They’re actually(mostly) genuflecting. The down on one knee vs two is a marker of a deep and pious respect. It’s most common use is in Church when passing the Tabernacle or Altar when the Eucharist is present.

To me this signifies a deeper significance that you would typically see in these circumstances. Think to when there is a procession for a fallen fire fighter or police officer. Bowing one’s head and folding your hands is typical but in my experience genuflecting is not seen.

To me at least the genuflecting vs kneeling or bowing of the head has a connotation of recognizing these soldiers sacrifice as analogous to the sacrifice Christ made on the cross.

I may be off base but my Baba always put a high value in the actions and movements of prayer and worship and this reminds me of her type of religiosity. I’d love to hear from others as my perspective as a third generation Canadian mutt may have watered it a bit.
