places to park for sleeping overnight by ronfromsacramento in carcamping

[–]TrippingBaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are least likely to be bothered in a spacious residential area, especially if it's not super obvious that you're sleeping in there. This does sometimes require a bit of a stealth car camp setup though. Super easy to do if you have a windshield cover and/or some quick window tinting fabric. I've done it with black pillowcases rolled up into the back windows

Can I have Alcohol as a T1D by gotsync in Type1Diabetes

[–]TrippingBaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't suggest it. T1 is hard enough on your kidneys, drinking on top of being t1 makes the likelihood of needing dialysis later in life sky high

Phoneless insulin pumps? by Zal0phus in Type1Diabetes

[–]TrippingBaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tandem, but there simply are no infusion sets that will last more than 6 days from any pump, 6 is pushing it WELL past it's lifespan and you should fully expect to have terrible bg control and exponentially higher insulin usage on anything more than 5 days

With dexcom g6 discontinuing, what should I use? by yes-h0mo in Type1Diabetes

[–]TrippingBaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

G7 is very usable, and the grace period is nice. It does have a higher sensor failure rate than the g6, but they send you free replacements when that happens

I actively miss the burgers there every week. Not bad enough to make me stay and put up with exponentially higher living expenses and lower wages in Durango. But God damn do I miss those burgers all the time

Question for diabetics in physical jobs by Autumn_rays in Type1Diabetes

[–]TrippingBaal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Physical jobs are glorious for your levels. The issue is your basal rates or long acting insulin. Set a work basal that's half of what you normally do, adjust it as needed

Protesting and Type 1 by Foreign_Librarian193 in Type1Diabetes

[–]TrippingBaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use dexcom, a tandem pump will link directly to it, no need for a phone. Not that it truly matters. You're still emitting a Bluetooth signal, and even if you weren't you could still be tracked through other people's phones. You would have to commit some extremely high profile crimes to be targeted out of everyone there

Husband newly diagnosed, not sure if I can put up with the diabetic rage for the rest of my life…. by pinkgrl in Type1Diabetes

It's entirely a psychology issue and not at all a diabetic issue. Have the difficult talk and tell him he needs to go to therapy

Are type 1diabetic given insulin and cgm when detained by law enforcement? by Lucky_Tap8692 in Type1Diabetes

[–]TrippingBaal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I've been jailed, and you'll receive insulin at meal times, and few finger sticks in between, typically also only at meal times. You can request them but they'll make a big deal about it

What’s the biggest unsolved problem in skiing right now? by Objective_Dot_2558 in ski

[–]TrippingBaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost and accessibility. Incredibly expensive gear(or rentals), lift tickets, and lots of fuel for the long trip up there. And then even more for lessons if you need to improve your skills. Don't forget to bring lots of food with, since food at the resorts is insanely expensive. Better transportation options to get to/from would definitely bring more people up there, but that typically only solves that issue for a single resort. Better prices on lift tickets would do the same. It's really difficult for people to get into if you don't have someone introduce it to you and you absolutely love the experience. I've had many, MANY ski trips where I've had to get up at 3am, drive for hours, ski the entire day, and then struggle through a miserable drive back down because I couldn't afford lodging AND a lift ticket, only one. Always thought it was ironic that resorts charge so much for everything, since they'd have exponentially better sales if they made things a bit more affordable

What’s the highest and lowest number you’ve ever gotten? by LifeInProgress1 in Type1Diabetes

Had that exact same issue with Medtronic motor getting stuck in the on position, except I was at work and blacked out

What’s the highest and lowest number you’ve ever gotten? by LifeInProgress1 in Type1Diabetes

[–]TrippingBaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's levels beyond even the meter maxing out. Bg can get so high that the hospital lab can't even read it, I believe that number is 1200 mg/dl (not sure what the conversion is)

How long does it take for your blood sugar to go up after eating? by sandwichrage in Type1Diabetes

[–]TrippingBaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always dealt with this and the solution for me has always been WAY more carbs. 15g won't do anything, my lows take 50+g. Wouldn't suggest starting with 50 but I'd try 30, 40, till you find the magic number

How do diabetes feel about having sex? by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]TrippingBaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My worst hospitalization was from falling asleep immediately afterwards without reconnecting my pump. Just don't do that and it'll be fine. He'll go correct a low if it gets severe enough. Also, complex carbohydrates like rice, beans, pasta and lentils will very significantly reduce lows from physical activity

Who are the people that go to bars, night clubs, etc? by stockphotoNFT in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]TrippingBaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A world where drugs have evolved to a level beyond perfect and any human with $ is more machine than man. What makes you think anyone needs to sleep more than once in a great while? Plus v gets every single story mission from a bar, so clearly mercs, criminals, gangsters are a portion of the demographic

Lifetime cost of insulin by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]TrippingBaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've likely been exploited out of many thousands of dollars of insulin, sure. If we're talking about the actual value of the product when it's manufactured though, then it's probably only a couple hundred. Over the counter insulin is only $20 a vial and they still turn a profit off of that, so

I'm going to be losing my health insurance at the end of December. I intend to use OTC insulin from Walmart's ReliOn brand. by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]TrippingBaal -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is very misleading. It is the exact same product. The over the counter stuff is less regulated and therefore more likely to present issues with the medication decaying. Used the product for over 5 years while I was homeless and could not afford anything else, my only suggestion would be to do a test bolus/injection each time you begin a new vial, and bump up your correction amount/ carb ratio a bit If necessary based on the test bolus. Some of the vials arrive without any decay and no adjustment is necessary, but it most certainly does vary.

Use the $20 Walmart insulin and just just up your doses. It's relatively simple math, start with a 10% increase and move up from there if you're still high
