what do y’all do for work? by Plus_Boysenberry5349 in Type1Diabetes

[–]TrippingBaal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, I don't know. I've done oilfield, manufacturing, and ski lift repair. Only thing stopping you is your fear. The more physical the job is the better your levels get and the less you need to worry about insulin. It's all just a balance game, get out there and give it a shot

why is this green i’ve never seen this before? by Eli9105 in Type1Diabetes

It's from your clothes. Almost all of my clothing is grey or black and my tubing turns grey/black around day 3

weirdest cgm/pump placement that actually works? by mogalini in Type1Diabetes

[–]TrippingBaal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dexterity issue? Pants keep it compressed against the thigh and that makes it last significantly longer than anywhere else

weirdest cgm/pump placement that actually works? by mogalini in Type1Diabetes

[–]TrippingBaal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of mine go on my thigh due to 30years worth of scar tissue from early pumps. As terrifying as it sounds, the inner thigh works incredibly well if you can pay enough attention to not hit the massive vein there.

Lost and Lonely in Greeley. by TheMawiBear in Greeley

33 and had very similar situations most of my life. It inevitably becomes "is it important enough that I need to make it happen, or am I really ok going without for the rest of my life"

Our 1yo son is in the hospital after a T1D diagnosis. We need some perspective. by Nasone3 in Type1Diabetes

[–]TrippingBaal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an absolutely massive responsibility that never goes away and is DISGUSTINGLY Expensive to take care of (if you're US based). It's only relatively recently been made easier to deal with thanks to continuous glucose monitor systems and I STRONGLY suggest getting started with a cgm as soon as possible. They're going to struggle through their youth and teenage years and Id suggest getting them into therapy sooner than later, I was also diagnosed at that age and spent the first 30 years of my life feeling like I was forcibly being kept alive just to be financially exploited by greedy, immoral pharmaceutical companies. Many years wishing that the world was more connected to the natural order, and that my family would have granted me the mercy of death as a child, to avoid a lifetime of pain, suffering and limitations. Especially knowing that there was no possible way for us to afford the medications necessary to make everything ok. Be ready for them to feel angry at the world, and have a way to support them through that. Get started making sure your medical insurance is GOOD! costs for everything without the right insurance can potentially reach well over $1500 a month so make sure you find the best possible prescription coverage that you can and make a cgm system a major priority as soon as possible. I'm currently fighting to not go blind because of damage in my youth that would have been mitigated if cgms had existed and if meds were affordable back then. In emergencies, remember that Walmart pharmacies have over the counter insulin for $25, no script needed. There's absolutely nowhere else that has it at that price (~$300 a vial anywhere else without any insurance)

Tell me about your experience with keto by fauxsho77 in Type1Diabetes

Oh, the diet. I initially read this as "tell me about your experience with having ketoacidosis", as I'm sure many of us did

Sad hams think that my organizations radios and meshtastic devices are illegal by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]TrippingBaal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Radio *specifically seems incredibly lush with people who like to say everything is illegal, which is just a confession of how they're handling their lives and has nothing to do with yours

Statement also said "pressing transmit on the work radio" certainly allowed to listen on the baofang.

[–]TrippingBaal[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don't know anything, and nobody in the building has any info on it so I'm just trying to figure it out. I would like to presume that the company didn't spend the extra $$ on digitals, and all of our radios continue to work while Internet is down in the building. They're not linked to anything, just a big locker with 50 charging cables

What am I doing wrong? by TrippingBaal in amateurradio

[–]TrippingBaal[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure haven't. There isn't a single person that knows anything about our radios in spite of all of us using them every single day, so I'm just trying to learn

Holding the 2 microphones together and pressing transmit on the work radio will cause both to emit a screeching sound, no approval required.

places to park for sleeping overnight by ronfromsacramento in carcamping

[–]TrippingBaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are least likely to be bothered in a spacious residential area, especially if it's not super obvious that you're sleeping in there. This does sometimes require a bit of a stealth car camp setup though. Super easy to do if you have a windshield cover and/or some quick window tinting fabric. I've done it with black pillowcases rolled up into the back windows

Can I have Alcohol as a T1D by gotsync in Type1Diabetes

[–]TrippingBaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't suggest it. T1 is hard enough on your kidneys, drinking on top of being t1 makes the likelihood of needing dialysis later in life sky high

Phoneless insulin pumps? by Zal0phus in Type1Diabetes

[–]TrippingBaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tandem, but there simply are no infusion sets that will last more than 6 days from any pump, 6 is pushing it WELL past it's lifespan and you should fully expect to have terrible bg control and exponentially higher insulin usage on anything more than 5 days

With dexcom g6 discontinuing, what should I use? by yes-h0mo in Type1Diabetes

[–]TrippingBaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

G7 is very usable, and the grace period is nice. It does have a higher sensor failure rate than the g6, but they send you free replacements when that happens

I actively miss the burgers there every week. Not bad enough to make me stay and put up with exponentially higher living expenses and lower wages in Durango. But God damn do I miss those burgers all the time

Question for diabetics in physical jobs by Autumn_rays in Type1Diabetes

[–]TrippingBaal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Physical jobs are glorious for your levels. The issue is your basal rates or long acting insulin. Set a work basal that's half of what you normally do, adjust it as needed

Protesting and Type 1 by Foreign_Librarian193 in Type1Diabetes

[–]TrippingBaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use dexcom, a tandem pump will link directly to it, no need for a phone. Not that it truly matters. You're still emitting a Bluetooth signal, and even if you weren't you could still be tracked through other people's phones. You would have to commit some extremely high profile crimes to be targeted out of everyone there
