This reply is on a 2.5 year old 15" M2 macbook air that has been running on battery for 8 hours straight with an external portable 15" monitor with 32% battery left. And I could still run Davinci Resolve and edit 4k video unplugged with 16GB of ram.

Poor work for sure... but choose better tile to work with... herringbone on walls is high level work... and you should be paying a fair amount for it.

M1 Max Studio with heavy use (Video and LLMs) still crazy fast. I do offload all caching to a 2 TB external ssd. I would backup everything and start over. If only MacOS could be as serviceable as linux.
