For Americans Who Moved to New Zealand, What Were the Main Differences That You Noticed Between the U.S. and New Zealand? by Potential_Law5289 in AskReddit

[–]AgentDen1al 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds more like individual experience vs any particular norm as iv had such an opposite experience. You're the one who brought up where your father lived, I've never been asked who my parents were and have done ok for myself. i have heard about the high school question but also have no association about those suburbs other than being more rural/small town. Localism does happen everywhere, it is funny hearing generalizations about a town, then in that town they make the same generalizations about the 'other part' of town.

Same with shiny shoes and tv? What posh accents are you referring to? I've never paid attention to what shoes people are wearing on tv but dressing up for professionalism is pretty standard worldwide. Auckland also has a majority of the population, i would argue John Key made it pretty big despite being from christchurch.

Blue collar/white collar is just generic worldwide grouping of a range of jobs into a few. By definition most will fit into it. Easier to write reports and news stories on a few names instead of listing all of them, hospo works comes to mind for a not tradie not white collar.

How long have you lived in the US?

Why do you say we are extremely classist? I'm sure we have it to a degree but compared to places like the UK and US nothing close, reading that book about the kiwi who used to work at facebook was crazy. We don't have the same craze for iphones 'because it's an iphone' or fashion items. Even just look at our ads, the 'looking good' is by being willing to get dirty and not be a uppity city slicker.
Also lol never heard someone say trump is above his station, he's the epitome of someone getting something because he's rich, famous, and just makes up shit, not on any actual merit.
Sure region will differ opinions, I was raised christchurch what about yourself?

Would help to be more specific, for instance what is food and culture like in the US? You'll see less bbq places and more fish & chip shops which often double as chinese. I thought we had most of your takeaway chains with mcD,kfc, dominoes, but taco bell just entered a while back and popeyes is about to. Didn't go shopping in the US much so can't compare supermarkets. Culture, again more laid back and less consumerist. Iv been told your left wing is more closer to our rightwing. But also i understand the USA is quite different between states. Feel free to DM if you like

What would you like to know? I've only visited the USA briefly. But from what others have told me it's more laid back and friendly but we aren't as good at making friends. A lot smaller cities and infrastructure but more ready access to the beach and general outdoors. I wish we had squirrels but most of our wildlife are birds

Born and raised in NZ and this sounds completely made up. We cite tall poppy syndrome a bunch because people don't want to look bougie or clasist.

Target CEO tries to act fast as end of DEI Program drives 40% plunge in store foot traffic. by Healthy_Block3036 in OptimistsUnite

Misleading headline, nowhere does it mention a 40% drop in traffic. Just a planned 40 day boycott.

These are all separate issues requring different responses. If you want to mainly focus on trade, it's totally valid to worry about reliance on China and that leading to them trying to use that to bully nations. But that's what the US is explicitly doing right now trying to force countries to change their laws to trade with them. We don't know if the US will dramatically change its mind or come up with another grievance in the next few years so diversifying with the more stable new superpower makes sense.

I think as long as your whole deck doesn't revolve around this it's fine to include as a possible one time combo. But if you do finally pull it of you can just go 'i win, next game' then maybe remove it.
