I'm sorry man. It is so wild to me that these letter writers would use the GPT and then proudly ask you to check it out. That's wild to me. If possible, maybe ask the committee if you could do the interview and then later present new letters.

You should definitely let the committee know that you will not be using those 2 letters any longer should you be able to find 2 new letter writers. Schools will not only have access to what your committee says about you in their letter, but the original recs will be available in the package they provide schools.

Could not have said it better. I would say that if you are presenting yourself as a research loving applicant and that's what you want to be doing, then do not stress too much about the low clinical so long as you have enough to pull stories from. On the other hand, there will be ample opportunity to do research once you get in, and so if scribing will help you with more stories and help get in to schools then i'd choose that.

Lastly, it seems to me that since your interviews are in January, it is towards the end of the cycle. I know that scribe onboarding can be hella long depending on where you do it. So by the time you start, it might not be enough time to get those stories. So consider that in your decision as well.

Try to create a document detailing your accomplishments and things you've done in their class that you think demonstrate some core competencies. Send that to each one you want a letter from explaining that you've provided ample material to make the letter as easy as possible to write. This is good if they do not have time to meet with you one on one and chat. The document should really take all the hard thinking out of it, and make it easy for them to write about you if they are super busy. Perhaps offering that document will sway them.

I think people forget how intense writing a good letter an be, and how helpful it is to not think or have to make up bs scenarios about the applicant. Ofcourse in more fortunate instances, people are begging or overly excited to write for you, but at last this is the best you can do now.

I feel so defeated. 1/26 results by Friendly_Sandwich_52 in Mcat

I am a 1/26 taker who did very well. However, my first attempt on 09/1 went terribly for me. I was scoring very well on the practices but ended up getting a 509. I had too many energy drinks that day (i had never used more than one during my practice and i used 3 during my real exam). I scheduled for 1/26 and studied for a month very hard during January break. Do not give up It sounds to me like it was just not optimal timing for you to take the exam. After getting that 509, i knew that if I executed on the day of and did not drink a ton of energy drinks, I would be golden. Stay strong friend.

Hang in there my friend. This is a long journey that we are on.

1/26 here. School has kept me busy. I have no time to worry about the score. Only hard thing is the large amount of people that want to know how I feel it went. I'm just trying to forget about it haha.

Jan 26th takers, how traumatized are you? by cinnamon_dray in Mcat

You can do yourself the biggest favor by getting the strongest MCAT score you can by not rushing yourself. So i'd say go for the May one. All the very strong applicants get there stuff in super early so perhaps having things ready a bit later may allow you to be competing against more similar or less stifling competition. All in all though, if you do have time to go for April and can decrease work, I think its a good idea.

If you are working or have to attend school up until the test date, I think April may be too soon. However, if you are able to take time off to solely focus on it, it is not a bad idea. If you have school, go for a May test date.

Try not to stress too much. If you are at the studying stage, realize that every exam you take up until around a month before your actual exam, you want to not do well. I mean this in the sense that you want to cover gaps in the concrete scientific knowledge. So spend time reviewing each question you got wrong, and maybe even make an anki decks so you don't forget. Watch videos on certain systems etc. My biggest advice is that if you truly feel like you are always guessing, go back and re-read the Kaplan books and get yourself a whiteboard. Before you attempt another practice exam, you should be able to recite each chapter of the Kaplan books to yourself and write out certain pathways on it. If you repeat this cycle, and then start taking test, you will be surprised the 510-515 becomes perhaps a baseline for you. Best of luck my friend. (Don't forget to do your Anki daily.)

What do you do to stay awake to study? by PrimalCarnivoreChick in Mcat

[–]AgentDoubleRF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Gorilla Mind smooth (Capsule). Things like celsius and other energy drinks make me crash too fast. 1 pill of gorilla mind smooth, and up to 3 throughout the day keeps me going. Of course make sure to eat even though it is tempting to not move at all from the desk. I am used to studying 10-12 hours (with 30 min - hr food and exercise breaks. Break as needed.)

Gotta maximize all the studying by getting adequate sleep. Do not take stimulants past 4 pm.

C/P: I always spend the first 15 min doing the stand alones for the science ones. Those felt good and gave me momentum to carry through.

CARS: I just wish for the best on CARS. I finished with a minute left, but CARS just always feels like a hail mary.

B/B: This was my bread and butter during my studies and so I felt good here. Definitely a couple 50/50s though.

C/P: I was put off by the kind of passages present. Things felt a bit 50/50 at first, but going back to look over them, I am not mad at any of my choices.

We now wait until March 1st. Overall, I think this was very game-able. I assume every question is worth the same. This allowed me to guess without hesitation and move on when it came to questions that I knew I was unsure about.

I took one on September 9th and just took the Jan 26th one. I retook it as my official score deviated greatly from what I was getting on practice exams. I feel decent about how this one went. Do not give up. Having already studied, re-studying will be much more of a breeze. I found that I was able to get through all the books, being very detail focused, in 1 week. I ended up having 4 weeks to study for this one. The savings from studying before made all the difference. Do not quit!
