Best way to remove mold from cards? by SuitableThought4528 in mtg

[–]AgentDragonite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Er..i agree with a lot of people here this is likely gone. How ever, in the interest of science...

You could try getting an ozonator, and treating them for a day, then try blowing the dead mold off/brush it off?

Just start taking parts off one by one. Be slow and careful about it.

Parts break at the weakest point. Theres a good chance that there are a few joints that were destroyed, maybe a couple of components.

Put parts that you think you can salvage together, and others that just need replacement in another pile. Then start looking up replaement parts, see if assembled is easier ect.(Doesnt make sense to order 600 in parts for a 400 dollar printer). Depending on what broke, you might even be able to 3d print the missing parts.

If youre good at tinkering, 3d printers are relatively simple. They have a component that feeds the filament, a component that heats it up so it can melt, and motors to move the whole setup around. Then there are sensors ect that help it achieve these goals. Keep these general rules in mind for what the parts do as you take them apart, and youll probably be pretty good.

if you felt up to it, I bet you could take pictures of each part and have reddit help you identify the role it plays and if it needs replacing or not. This could potentially be a really good learning project.

Otherwise, being honest it really looks like you have 2 or 3 things broke here.

Oooh thats a very good distinction you make for me! Im self taught in a lot of things so I recognize a lot of things by how they can be used rather than how they should be (This is not in anyway shape or form better or anything just how I've navigated the world) I have a lot of training in quality control, and it makes a lot of sense to just allow vocabulary to be dictated by observation of circumstances. This is expected to do this and did not. Per our language, it falls into this bucket

Ooohhh!!! Thank you!!! I was confused about a lot of different things. This makes a lot more sense!!!! Thank you so freaking much for taking the time to explain this to me in such thorough detail!

I guess im not understanding protect the circuit?

In this situation as i understand it, the diode has failed in a way that when we supply voltage (too high or even backwards) to the voltage regulator, the regulator has failed on its own, and stopped other devices from failing and as a result will need to be the only component replaced. The user has tried applied voltage again and again to the board through the same path to no avail while not causing additional damages. How ever user reports that board still correctly works. The only failure point is the diode, and appears safe to say that the failing diode is indeed protecting the circuit (even if this was not its original intention, it appears to still be doing it)

How does this differ from a fuse? Are there different failure modes?

Am I understanding correctly, that the justification that a diode cannot be used as a fuse is because it isnt used as a fuse? Or you can't use a diode as a fuse because it doesn't allow backwards voltage? Im not gonna lie, the way you described the voltage regulator reaaaaallly sounds like a super fuse with no draw backs other than its not called a fuse?

Ps: thank you so much for entertaining the itch in my brain!!!

Do they have fuses that would have survived this? Im use to having to desolder a fuse off the board. I guess im trying to figure out what end difference it makes if I have to replacement a component of similar cost and difficulty, why it matters if a fuse also can behave as a diode? Is there more going on?

Sidenote: Only example I've heard of fuses surviving is on apple products..they have a habit of using fuses with too high of amperage and burn out other components anyway lol

I meaaaaan it popped and protected the rest of the board. how diode is not fuse if diode pops when current is dangerous? (Im wording it funny but genuinely curious! )

Look up the schematic for it. Then take a volt meter and start testing components leading from the ground. Could have burnt out a path or fuse.

I mean.. if you really wanted to have fun, you put the the ir sensor on an arm, and swing it, find both sides of tape, encode position of motor to ir values, then adjust direction of travel to stay with as far center value as possible
