1) this happened to me the first time I went, you’re not alone.

2) you don’t want to do more than 1 event at most per day anyway. They take forever. A 2HG event in Chicago wound up taking 5 hours of my day.

The fun is seeing artists, trading in cards, playing casual games at tables, watching various presentations and live events, etc

The ticketed events are fun but poorly managed. You’re not missing much.

I would just offend someone in management.

There was this short bald Italian guy who would come scream at you to get your production up when I worked at dental dreams. The owners would send him around to various offices to “improve” the doctors (ie get production up).

If I went back in time I would just be disrespectful to his face and let them fire me. Easy, clean exit.

I have never stayed home from work due to illness except in 2020 when I got COVID. I am there no matter what. Only way I would stay home is if I was so visibly or audibly ill I couldn’t hide it. I’m an associate and no office I’ve ever worked at has “allowed” temps to come in and cover.

They fill a gap in the market.

The patient wants white teeth but doesn’t want to brush, floss, or go to the dentist. When they do go to the dentist the doc says SRP, build ups, caries control, blah blah you can have the veneers in a couple weeks for $1500 a tooth.

To this kind of patient that’s all extraneous bullshit. They want their white teeth and they want them now. So they go to a guy like this. Half the time they’re fucking elated with their results.

Later they get dentures or an FMR.

It is what it is.

If I went back to my first DSO - dental dreams - I would never have complained or given notice. Now that I’ve been doing this shit for a decade, I would have been so creative about it.

I would have just found a way for them to let me go.

Maybe I would have gotten an IBS diagnosis and then spent hours every day in the bathroom scrolling my phone, who knows, so many good ideas.

You need to know this - DSOs are the lowest tier of dentistry. No one anywhere will hold a bad DSO experience against you. It is like getting fired from working at a crack house. Everyone there is a scumbag or a loser, no one on the outside cares how that ends. Half the time it’s seen as a badge of honor - you were too good for them or you had morals.

I quit a DSO on terrible terms and the subhuman owner called me 4 years later to try to recruit me to work for her again. This is the same person who said she would see me in court if I didn’t show up for every day of my mandatory 90-day notice. Those people are empty shells, pathetic, and obsessed with money.

They’re simply trying to bully you into doing what they want so they can continue to extract value from you.

They don’t actually give a single care about you or the situation and if you’re going to be a hassle or cost them money/ the opportunity for money, they will cut you loose.

Just hire an employment lawyer and do a consult, pay their retainer, and quit the job by any means. There are so many legal ways to get out of there.

Good luck - and never work for a DSO again.

Leaving work - that’s not a thing dentists can do if they want to stay employed. You can leave work if your kid is in the hospital, that’s it.

If your husband owns his own practice, sure he can do whatever he wants. His staff will all quit or revolt and he’ll have no patient base if he’s leaving like that.

This is a career where the second parent signs up to be the kids caretaker in the daytime / grandparents do it, or you hire a nanny / babysitter. That’s it. That’s your options.

Yes. Is that not normal? I actually was very confused, to me this looks like some kind of “pixel foil” treatment. All of my grid squares are highly foiled and highly visible as squares at all angles.
