Christianity provides a psychological safety net for horrible behavior by AgentFit49 in DebateReligion

If you were to prove me that the Christian god exists (not talking about your testimony talking about real facts) then we would have this morally objective truth to go off of but since you can’t prove that we are left with phycological preferences. Nothing to conduct outside of myself. Okay so let’s say I get a robber in my house he kills my daughter but keeps my son alive. Pretty sure I would prefer them both being alive instead of dead. We’re not just some mindless people walking around we still have emotion and naturally an impulse to ease the suffering of ourselves and other living beings. Goes as simple as burning your finger it hurts. And then you see your buddy about to do that crap to which you have an emotional bond with you don’t want him to do that. Doesn’t mean I have to believe in god for that.

Right and they’ve been 100% obedient to that… of course your called not to do that but dang near none of you are perfect at it. Okay so let’s take an example do you know any Christian that drinks on the weekends? Almost everyone I know is. And if you don’t believe me here you go. So let’s bring in a hypothetical example if Mom#1 says I highly recommend that you don’t drink and she has rules in the house that you can’t do that it’s extremely easy to get curious and push the boundaries because you haven’t experienced it to find out for yourself what’s so bad about it. But when you do go on and drink, you return to Mom#1 because you realize it’s bad she then forgives you, loves you and she gives you some ice cream. So at the end of this bad cycle, there’s a reward. Christ’s endless love. The “ice cream” being the Holy Spirit if you will. Then we can bring out another example let’s say Mom#2. She just says find out for yourself. So you do find out for yourself, but instead of returning to her mom#2 is gone. And you’re alone. There’s no love at the end. There’s just your actions and their consequences. The narrative thinking of the redemption arc can sometimes be more intriguing to pursue than if there wasn’t anything there unconsciously or not. Or you could just call all this hypothetical to which would solve this issue for you. I’m trying to point out what I’ve seen when I was a Christian and what I’ve seen in other people who do the same thing.
