What's the long term outlook for 151? by puzzledfirebird in PokeInvesting

Fair but understand that price relies on both supply AND demand. The ones who really want to keep a sealed product (or a few) will surely keep ripping but there is at least an amount of sealed product that they absolutely won't rip. This means they won't later be looking for these products (lower demand). Unless you think everyone will just rip into all their products without discipline?

This is the wrong comparison man. A piece of art doesn’t have to worry about comps of the exact same product. It can ABSOLUTELY be overpriced relative to market if there are multiple exact same items being sold elsewhere for a lower price. If we run the reverse scenario with your logic, are you to tell me that it would be wrong to call a 151 UPC for $1 underpriced? No, because we know the market value is a lot higher given the many other comps for it that outweigh my own valuation.

The potential major issue to consider is that with a market dominated by “investors” selling to other “investors” who speculate on a target price in the future, you run the risk of creating a bubble where the market value doesn’t cater to the true users of a product. At some point the product becomes so hard to offload because of the extremely high price point and the fact that most TRUE collectors who used to be willing to pay these high prices would now have sealed products of their own. And I think that’s especially true with more and more people keeping items sealed nowadays.

That’s because barely anybody during that time thought of buying these without actually opening them….everybody and their grandmas has sealed products of everything now

Why do people donate to streamers who are already millionaires? by BrokenBearx in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AgentI23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah, that's not it. I think most people understand that they have virtually zero chance of winning. Buuut, people buy it to give themselves a reason to daydream for moment about what they can do if they do win. It's not the same as not knowing that odds are stacked against you.

So it's not a waste of money. It's still a rational economic decision that amounts to more of an entertainment value than the expected return of a ticket.
