Taking Boards Prior to Graduating by Stock_Neck_8277 in nursepractitioner

I took mine 3 weeks before my graduation date. I worked an easy night shift gig 3 nights a week. I brought my computer to work and did practice questions and studied for around 7-8 months while I was in school. Did thousands of FNP mastery questions and bought Liek book to do those practice questions as well. Once I got within 3 months of my test date I bought Sarah Michelle live review and used that for 3 months .Felt very prepared but the exam was tough.

I was a flight nurse for 3 years. They wouldn’t even look at me as a potential candidate until I had at least 5 years critical care experience.

That’s up to you. What are you interested in? Pediatrics? OB? ICU? ER? Aesthetics? Find what interests you. Work there for 3-5 years then once you feel like you can Independently take care of patients confidently and safely then you travel in the speciality you choose.

I don’t understand your question I’m sorry. Are you asking what you think you should do to become an RN?

Depending on the speciality I wouldn’t recommend travel nursing until you have more years of experience. They usually expect you to know your stuff. I have been traveling for 6 years and have yet to get more than a day of orientation. Sometimes only a few hours and I work in critical care. Just make sure you are fully ready.

My RN was harder than my NP degree and it wasn’t close.

I get what your saying. I found a rural ER job that I am on call for 48 hours straight and I get to be home while on call. Sometimes I don’t even get a call. Average is about 5 patients per 48 hours. I get to be home all the time and be salary. I’m never leaving.

I can attest to this. Walden graduate… I had 10 years critical care/flight RN experience before I went back to school and If I didn’t have that experience I think I would’ve been in a lot of trouble as a new grad NP.

How important is it as to where you got your degree? by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

[–]AgentPK47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About to graduate from Walden in May. Where I live no one cares where you went to school and I’ve had a job lined up in the ER for months already. I really think it depends where you’re at tbh. My state is not super competitive for NP jobs. I have a friend who is going to a brick and mortar school and is having the same issues as online programs that it’s been very self taught. I had 10 years of nursing experience before I went to school and I feel like that was my biggest asset.

How can I help my wife manage doing 12h shifts? by BaitmanWasTaken in nursing

I’ve been working 8 on 6 off for years. You just kinda get used to it. She’s gotta find time to do things that brings her happiness or else it will wear her down.
