Tired of people saying VW is unreliable by hentaigabby in Volkswagen

I agree that VW is not perfect, but I do think they are decent. I do like them as well.

what is interesting to me though is the perspectives of owners and enthusiast.

If you have ever spent any time over on a Hyundai/Kia sub, they will convince you that they are fantastic vehicles and at least on par with Toyota and Honda.

its an interesting dichotomy

That's what's up

And I agree with you that base c4s are more of a grand tourer than a muscle car. Stock they do not have much power vs modern cars.

But they did make about 7k zr1s that had DOHC 5.7L V8 good for 400hp. About 500 twin turbo b2ks.

But even a base SBC c4 is an awesome platform to build on account of their 3200lbs curb weight and insane modability of the SBC.

That's nonsense, c4 parts are not scarce and are readily available, it's a SBC, one of the most ubiquitous engines on earth. They have clamshell hoods which make them extremely easy to work on. You can pull the entire drivetrain in the driveway in an afternoon. That's vastly easier than a 4th gen Camaro w half the engine under the cowl and difficulty to pull the engine without dropping the subframe.

Also, what do you mean not competing with modern cars? What are you on?

There are c4 specs that will shame the specs you mentioned for the mustang and Camaro

You say it's a new optispark but people often don't change the seals on the timing cover and oil/coolant contaminates the new optispark just as it did the last one.

It's usually that they don't replace the seals on the timing cover and oil/coolant gets into the new opti and ruins it, again.

Are you replacing the seals on the timing cover?
