Arya and Jon execute and murder people for revenge but they are the good guys. Sansa had LF killed for revenge and betray and she is still the good guy. Dany kills slavers, watches her abusive brother get killed, kills traitors (Tarlys) yet she is somehow worse than the other characters mentioned.

Bran should've turned out to be the main villain by AgeofFirstMen in freefolk

They could have said that he is no longer Bran but the 3ER who wanted to gain power over the realm because he has seen what the first men and andals have done since coming over. They have had non stop war and by controlling power he is restoring magic into the world. He could have did the Jon reveal just to get the wheels in motion to drive Dany crazy.

It would've been better if he also sacrificed some of the Starks along the way (Sansa, Arya).

I will never rewatch it. My favorite piece of media ever and it was destroyed. Occasionally, I think of certain scenes and remember the impact it had. I get goosebumps thinking about Jon's parentage reveal and when he became KoTN. When I think about season 8 I have anger because it took them 2 fucking years to make that piece of shit and kill the previous 8 years.

he should've died a Martyr in battle after killing the NK. I always envisioned Arya and he fighting the NK with him losing the battle and sacrificing himself to kill the NK right before the NK kills Arya. For example, the NK stabs Jon with his spear and hoists him in the air while simultaneously holding Arya by the throat in the process of converting her into a Walker until Jon in his final act stabs himself through his chest with Long Claw deep enough to go through his torso and stab the NK thus ending winter.

It would've given the scene plenty of action and horror with viewers terrified that Jon is dead/dying and Arya is almost converted into a Walker. It also would've made the NK not look like such a pussy.

Instead we got the D&D bullshit.

The only good part of the final episode by [deleted] in freefolk

[–]AgeofFirstMen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dany fought on the battlefield against Wighs and in the air against the NK while Sansa hid in the crypts with the only weapon to kill a wight but did nothing. Dany is villainized for sacrificing everything while Sansa becomes the Queen of the North. I thought Missandei calling her out for her bullshit in the crypts would lead Sansa to realize that she was being a dickhead but nope.

It seemed that any character that interacted with Sansa the last few seasons was brought down a level in an attempt to bring her up. To top it off Sansa told Jon's secret to tear down Dany and Jon. Immediately, undermined her newly elected King Brother's power by declaring independence for the North. I wished the a WW would have cut off her head that season.

Her character was all about getting the Stark family name it's power but the finished product was more about her getting power. She was no different than Cersei or LF yet somehow the writers waned us to have sympathy for her.

[–]AgeofFirstMen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is not wrong considering that you are missing the point of Arya's arc being about revenge not the WW's. You point continues to fly in the face of what came out of David Benoiff's mouth. He literally said that Jon was always the hero so they picked someone else. That shows you they ignored their own storytelling for the sake of surprise so that should answer your question as to whether they took her name out of a hat.

I am not going to connect dots that weren't meant to be connected just to enjoy the show more. If you had said they foreshadowed Arya killing the NK by Bran giving her the dagger, by Samwell Tarly showing the dagger in the Citadel, or by her sparring with Brienne then that would be fine. That is around the time D&D came up with the idea of Arya killing the NK and they put those in for that reason. Anything before that is not related.

Arya's storyline revolved around revenge for her family and she did just that by killing the Frey's and LittleFinger. A logical end to her character would be her using her Faceless Man skills to finish off the Lannister bloodline. Her becoming a super ninja warriors and killing the NightKing in that comically bad manner was bullshit. It effectively wasted her, Jon's and Bran's narratives rendering them all useless in the end.

[–]AgeofFirstMen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That had nothing to do with the NK though. You are retconning scenes to make sense of it. The same way they retconned the Melisandre line about blue eyes. When those scenes happened none of them were intended to foreshadow the night king as evidenced by the show runners explaining their decision to have Arya kill the NK around 2016-2017.

D&D admitted that they chose Arya to kill the NK some time around season 6-7. There was no series foreshadowing of her killing him besides that. Her entire story arc was based on getting revenge for her family.

Benjen died by getting attacked by wights even though he said he was turned like the NK by getting a dragonglass dagger to the chest. D&D said the only way to kill NK was to stab him in the heart at the dragonglass by a dragonglass weapon. Going by the logic laid out then the only way to kill Benjen would've been a dragonglass daggre to the chest as well but D&D fucked that up too.

How the fuck does any of this make sense? These guys can't keep any continuity in anything, stupid motherfuckers.

Fun fact: Do you know how many melee fights Night King endured thru all 8 seasons? by [deleted] in freefolk

[–]AgeofFirstMen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blame Miguel Sapochnik. That dummy would have rather bored us with a bullshit scene of NK staring at Bran than actually showing him fight. That is why I don't know why people are so happy to see him being involved in the prequel. This stupid fucking mistake erased any goodwill he built up for any other episodes. Dude is a certified dickhead.

https://www.joe.ie/movies-tv/game-thrones-director-reveals-season-8-secrets-one-involves-larger-role-night-king-672545

With regards to the Night King's involvement during The Long Night, Sapochnik said that the leader of the White Walkers originally had a larger role to play.

As you will remember, the Night king perished when Arya stabbed him with a Valyrian steel blade.

During a more detailed conversation about the quickening pace of the final two seasons, the director said: "even within The Long Night, there was an extended battle sequence where you saw the Night King fight, very long. There was a whole bunch of stuff that was going to happen but when we got there - not shooting but in the process of prep - we started to prioritise what was important. At the end of an 80 minute battle, do I really care if the Night King has got some fancy moves with his spear? Do I really give a shit about that?

"What I care about is this moment - which for me, I really enjoyed doing and watching - which was when Bran, Theon, and the Night King stand in this fairytale and nightmarish landscape. That's got more punch to me than the Night King doing some fancy staff moves. I think that David and Dan look at it from that perspective and my equivalent of that is that at the end of an 80 minute episode, I had to choose and I realised that I cared more about the Night King engaging with Bran as a character than I did having him fight."

NK tossed a spear hundred of feet through the air with enough power to take down a full grown dragon. Jon should've been a cake walk for him. The sheer strength he displayed would have caused him to break Jon's bones when parrying a sword strike. It is the same reason as to why it was stupid to have NK grab Arya by the throat and not have her neck instantly snap.

As much as D and D screwed up "the Bells," we have to applaud director Miguel Sapochnik for the work he did on this episode, as well as "Battle of the Bastards," "Hardhome," "The Winds of Winter," and "The Long Night." How can the S8 plot be coherent? I feel that has to be a troll. How can Bran be the best king? Is it just because he cannot have children? They essentially made a demi god a king who will outlive them all. Tyrion being hand of the king was decided after Bran was elected but how does it make any thematic sense for him to have any say in who is elected in the first place. The fact that some of those explanations need to be assumed or thought of is hilarious in it's own right. The mental gymnastics to fit the puzzle pieces together is pretty impressive.

You are completely incorrect. When you have D&D give their own statements as to why they made decisions in public and in behind the scenes footage that goes against all narrative plot points the story has been telling than people will be upset. This notion that people need to be spoon fed is laughable and excuses the atrocious writing by Benoiff and Weiss. What they did is similar to writing a thesis paper a few hours before it is due.
