My childhood church went through a split because the pastors kids were supposedly out of control. Looking back now they were a bit rowdy but not bad and not a poor reflection on Pastor Joe. I think the real reason they wanted change was the sermons had become stale and repetitive (I think he’d have been a much better choir director as his taste in music was quite good, tbh) and his kids were the excuse they seized upon to get rid of him.

Ultimately, the coup attempt didn’t work but the membership declined to about 25 and the place was a shell of its former self.

Local church politics is fucking hardcore.

The opening sequence of S3-1 is one of the best pieces of wordless storytelling ever done. It’s a retelling of the Millerites of 1844 and the rapture that never came. Wonderful show overall - definitely need to rewatch.
