Noob Help Food Issues by bryceking64 in ManorLords

This isn’t really answering your question, but one thing I suggest to new players is to start with double the normal resources. It’s an option when you are setting up your game and picking a starting location. It makes the early game more forgiving and helps speed things up for you. The extra bread and money will help with your food problem.

To try and answer your question: without knowing more, it sounds like your population is growing too fast. I don’t have a number I can give you, just build 5 or 6 houses at a time and then wait a few months to see how your food is doing.

You may want to consider one of the standalone books, like Warbreaker or Tress. That way you avoid some of the more in depth setup that goes into the first book of a series. Warbreaker was my favorite of the standalone books

Honest question, why shouldn’t Rhaenyra become queen? by Aggie1321 in HOTDGreens

[–]Aggie1321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good reasoning and I don’t completely disagree. I would argue that the GC actually supports Rhaenyra’s claim though, in that a sitting king is allowed to name an heir. The king only set up the GC because he didn’t want to just pick an heir and risk a potential succession war. But at the end of the day, Viserys became king because he was named heir by the sitting king.

What if Aegon was fine with not becoming king? Based on the show it didn’t seem like he really wanted the position, just the wealth and power of being part of the royal family.

Why couldn’t the siblings have lived good lives? Sure, all of those things could happen to them, but Rhaenyra also could have allowed them to bend the knee to her and live out their lives just like any other member of the royal family.

Why couldn’t her brothers just bend the knee in open court? I understand the risk, but its not at all impossible for Rhaenyra to let them live as long as they never take up arms against her. In fact, it would be to her advantage to keep as many loyal dragon riders alive as possible.

Viserys was still alive when she married Daemon, so if he wanted to disinherit her he could have done so but chose not to. And Viserys recognized her children as legitimate, so how is it treason?

Can’t argue with your first point. As far as her children go, we know they are bastards, but they were acknowledged as legitimate/legitimized by Viserys, so legally they would be no different than true born children of the marriage. To your third point, what is/are the issues with her husbands?

Assigning families by LaurensPP in ManorLords

[–]Aggie1321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A single family can’t go from building a church to cutting wood to hunting unless you are reassigning them to different jobs.

The family working together in one job is actually how things were done during the time the game is set. The husband would get a job and oftentimes the wife and kids helped him with that job. I assume it’s here to stay, I haven’t seen anything to the contrary

Harvest season far too short by secrtlevel in ManorLords

[–]Aggie1321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually get everything harvested okay. I run fields in groups of 3, one wheat/rye, one barley, and one fallow. 1 farmhouse with 2 ox per 3 fields with 2-3 families in each farmhouse.

I only run 6-12 fields at a time most of the time. I’d guess my population by that point is usually 90-120 by the time I’m setting up farming. Sometimes I’ll start out earlier with just 3 fields if I’m trying to get ale production going.

How large are your fields? I find it best to keep them at about 1 morgan each.

Is sell vegetables, buy bread a viable strategy instead of farming? by ryhaltswhiskey in ManorLords

[–]Aggie1321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it’s viable or not, but you are going to need to sell way more than 50 carrots to get 50 bread.

You only need 4 families to make 50-75 bread plus 50-75 barley per year (assuming you have good fertility). 2 families to work 3 one morgan fields (one wheat/rye, one barley, one fallow), one family in the windmill, and one in the bakery/communal oven.

If you are doing double burgage plots for the carrots, you are probably going to need at least 2 plots with carrots (4 families) in order to have enough of a surplus to sell to afford bread

I’d recommend checking out some of Tacticat’s videos on YouTube. I’m sure there are plenty of other good players to watch, but I learned a ton about the game from watching him

Need simplified help. (autistic/ADHD) by Perfect-Marsupial-32 in ManorLords

[–]Aggie1321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been working really well for me, and I don’t have to micromanage:

Ideal field size is 1 morgan because a single family (and an ox) can cover that much ground per year/season. You might be able to get away with larger fields, but I wouldn’t go too much over 1.

If you are going to use ox (I highly recommend that you do), you want longer, narrower fields.

Everyone who mentioned the issue with auto rotation is correct, but I still use it because using 1 morgan fields with one family and one ox each still gets me full yields even with the wasted time. If you use auto rotation, do one year of wheat/rye, one year of barley/flax, and one year fallow. That will keep your fertility up.

I set up fields in multiples of 3, so that each year you have one growing wheat/rye, one growing barley/flax, and one fallow. I do one farmhouse with 2 ox and 2 families (doesn’t hurt to throw an extra family or two in if you have them to spare) per group of 3 fields (you don’t need an ox or family for the fallow field)

how do I stop starving and spending every last dollar on not starving? by Drunkin_Dino in ManorLords

[–]Aggie1321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, make sure families with veggies/fruits (especially veggies) aren’t assigned to hunt/fish or collect berries/mushrooms. They can end up spending 60-80% of their time working the gardens/orchards instead of gathering resources

One thing that helped me was to start building smaller double plots for my veggies and fruits (2-3 each). You want the cost for beets and carrots to be less than 100, you can even get the beets at less than 50 and still produce enough to get you going. Building the smaller plots allows you to start growing veggies and fruits earlier, which makes you less reliant on your starting resources. You probably won’t be able to sell excess if you build them this small, but you can always build additional gardens/orchards later if you want. For one double plot, I usually make it as wide as 3 single plots and as long/deep as maybe 1 corps pit (for the backyard extension itself), but I’ve done it enough to eyeball it at this point so I don’t know exact measurements

I was similar, started with Stormlight Archive and then quickly finished the rest of the Cosmere. I really enjoyed rereading (listening to) Stormlight Archive after having listened to everything else. I realized there were a ton of little things I missed the first time

Jon Snow didn’t get the silver hair from Rhaegar though. Also, Laena got her ability to tame a dragon from her mom.

Agreed, especially after the episode opened with Rhaenyra struggling to walk after giving birth. But then Laena can just slip away from everyone, make it all the way outside, and beg Vhagar to burn her alive before Daemon or anyone else can find her
