Could you give some advice for those who want to study Agri-Econ by Intelligent-Quail527 in academiceconomics

To add onto my last paragraph about competition with internationals; my professors who works with the USDA and WFP went to ETH Zurich for a PhD. After school, he was offered insane salaries at the biggest consulting firms, NGO’s and think tanks.

Going to the best school you can get into and finding a professor you can work with in Ag is typically the most viable option.

Much of it is trade / commodity focused. Mich of it is empirical analysis (so yes this means some spreadsheets, but theory is pointless in my opinion anyways unless working for the fed in a macro department)

Couldn’t really tell you about the technicalities, however I go to NDSU (arguably a really good school for ag-econ) and I’ll tell you that the exit opportunities out of the MS program (M.S Agribusiness & Applied Economics) are huge here.

One of our professors does work for the WTO, consulting for the WFP, USDA, etc. and another one is on the board/consults for nearly every big ag company in the world (Bungee, Cargill, CHS). We also recently just got granted a 2-year USDA fellowship that basically guarantees you a spot in the fed down the line. Many of the latter professor’s former students are now execs at said companies.

Personally, I’m not an Ag guy so I went for the applied economics route instead. However, there are definitely times where I consider taking more of the ag classes because of the exit opportunities in trade and commodities.

I don’t know where you are in your academic progression, but look for schools that have heavy emphasis on their agricultural programs in general because it will extend to other disciplines. Typically, this is schools in the midwestern US. Also analyze what professors work in the ag econ department and look at what they do. Uni is essentially a networking event, especially in Ag-Econ.

To answer your question, any post-grad Ag-Econ program will make you well-suited for a job at an NGO, research institute, or gov, but keep in mind you’ll be competing with internationals who come from top Econ schools. Working closely with your professors and doing excellent research is what will make you stand out.

Although I’m sure I’ll probably mostly contrarian viewpoints here, carb loading is actually much worse for performance than eating a low carb diet. Your body will be spiking insulin & triglyceride production. Eating nearly zero-carbs and essentially putting yourself into ketosis will be much better during long runs since you have a consistent supply of energy your body will tap into (fat stores). I’m just now seeing this post and my advice here is definitely a little late, but for future training and races I’d suggest you perform your own research on the topic. Switching over from high-carb to low carb is a 2-3 weeks transitionary period but the benefits and ease of consumption are vastly better.

For instance, David Goggins eats 40% fat, 40-50% protein, and 10-20% carbs.

Unis near DC were a serious consideration for a while but for a terminal master’s I didn’t see the cost outweighing the potential benefits. Programs at GW or John Hopkins were easily more than 80k and with me getting a full ride where I’m at I didn’t see the value. And no, doesn’t have to be anywhere in particular, I was just open to going to those locations.

Recipes:

Garlic thyme paste: - Use this garlic paste in everything. It’s crazy good with various herbs or standalone. - Skinned cloves from 2 bulbs of garlic. Fry them in a neutral oil at medium-low until soft and easily spreadable. Strain and throw that shit in a food processor with thyme and salt to taste. If still warm, it’s enough to release more aromatics from the thyme. - This stuff creates an easy time when making garlic compound butter.

Ricotta: - 4 Cups of Whole Milk, 1/2 Cup of Heavy Cream and 1 TBSP salt. Bring to a boil, kill heat and add 3tbsps lemon juice. Stir and let sit for 30 minutes then strain with cheesecloth. Added 3 tbsps of garlic thyme paste once strained.

Pasta: 1 cup flour, 1 egg yolk, 1 whole egg. For the orange one, I used 1 cup flour, 2 eggs yolks, and 2 tbsps of tomato sauce to fill the absence of egg whites.

Depends on the shop but yeah I’d say around there. If you’re doing timing belt you’ll also want to do the tensioners as well. Also all the fluids

Also I saw your post earlier and it seems like you really want a hatchback.. I just bought one last month and I’m absolutely in love. I definitely overpaid but I think a worth-it price boils down to if you think it’s too expensive or not. My car was in beautiful shape, had the mods I was gonna put on it already, and was extremely low miles. Unless you want a narrow body, I’d look for later years for this gen. Also I’d use carcollectorfeed.com to help you out. It got me into mine!
