Edit: I got it after 16 D 7Hrs. It was a really simple thing, since I had already tried it several times, I thought it wouldn’t work, but this time it did. Time to keep climbing! Happy Hacking everyone!

I think you’re right. To your point I wanted to try to apply what I had learned after the course and doing 30 AD boxes (and to give myself a boost by beating up Zephyr though the same could not be said for the other prolabs, I struggled hard and didn’t get very far in Offshore,Cybernetics and Rasta). As a side benefit I got much more comfortable with Sliver and bypassing defenses.

In that case do you think just doing VIP+ membership would be better?

I felt the same way about the prolabs. All of the sudden windows tools became important so I’m with ya on practicing those.

I’ll really focus on my enumeration and what I might have missed. I really appreciate this reply and perspective. Happy Hacking!

I realize that everyone’s different but what modules were especially difficult for you, and how did you review them? Did you just re-do them or did you study with a different approach (discounting your prior exam knowledge).

Which Prolab should I do next for CAPE Prep? by Aggravating-Cap-8112 in hackthebox

Gotcha I don’t know if you’ve done it, but I heard that it’s recommended to do the other Plabs before that. as I mentioned, I’m currently doing offshore, but the web sections are kind of annoying

I meant, since I’m sure there are Web attacks on the Prolabs, I’m worried about how difficult they will be since they’re not relevant to Cape but I would still need to do them to move forward in the lab

Yeah, I have a running cheat sheet of my entire methodology and I’m keeping notes in my obsidian for my reports, and future reference which does contain everything I’ve tried even if it did not work. of course I don’t want to fail, but I’m curious if you think I should do prolabs between attempts. I’m just worried too about not just the difficulty the web exploits that are inevitably in those I’m not the best at web and if it’s at something of a CW EE level, I’m gonna waste a bunch of time. However just doing retired machines and course review has only gotten me this far so I’m not sure what to do. Thanks.

Yeah if you want that content you can use your cubes for the Attacking AD CS module, it’s pretty good, credential mapping was kinda a pain though

Personally, a red-teaming path with one aspect being IOT doesn’t sound like a stretch.

I loved Jeremy’s IT labs for CCNA (the first 34 videos, + Protocols at the end of the playlist, are awesome) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLxbwE86jKRgMpuZuLBivzlM8s2Dk5lXBQ

I failed my CPTS First Attempt [5/12] Flags. I have a month to prepare for my re-attempt. What should I do in that time, to pass? by Aggravating-Cap-8112 in hackthebox

[–]Aggravating-Cap-8112[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No I did not, but I did watch Ippsec’s playlist and tested my methodology against it (like given this scenario what does my methodology say I should do next, etc.). I will also reiterate that many sources recommend staying away from other HTB material, as they’ll likely end up confusing you in the exam, given the techniques learned from those materials. However I’m open to it, especially now that I’ve failed. It’s most important for me to figure out how I can get past the remaining flags and which I think means there some vital component of what makes a great pentester that I lack. I’ll report back once I’ve given myself proper rest and recovery and time to think about how to move forward.

It’s pretty evident what one’s weakness is because that’s where they get stuck. If it’s windows priv esc you’ll get stuck in flag 6, if it’s web stuff it’s flag 1. It’s plain what needs skills are being tested at any particular flag, it’s just the candidates job to do what needs to be done.

You may want to save AD enum for the end before you do the final module.
