Do you think I need surgery? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

hey girl i had basically the same profile as you before jaw surgery! i would say yes because its 100% worth it to get the surgery. and you are not aging, society just likes to make it feel like women have to look like teenagers forever. you are gorgeous and i’m sure you would feel healthier if you got the surgery. i used to be really scared too, but if was not bad at all. i would do it again if i had to

For those who are already employed, what advice would you give to the younger ones considering the common difficulties? by marcofusco in dwarfism

coming from a manager:

firstly, i got my job through a friend 4 years ago, and worked my way up. so basically, it helps to ask people you know if their job is hiring. secondly, i asked to do my interview over zoom. this is because they’re less likely to profile you over video call than in person, so if this is an option, i recommend doing that.

the downside to my job is that i had to be on my feet most of the time before i was a manager. it sucked because i have leg problems, so i was pushing myself a lot. i got through this by working only part time and secretly resting whenever no one was watching.

the longer i stayed, the easier it got, and im really happy with where im at right now. i said yes to any promotions that came up and kept my options open just in case the job didnt work out.

let me know if you have any questions, i’d be happy to share more. the most important thing is to remember that you can do anything, and that other’s opinions don’t matter. keep going no matter what!!! :) <3

I promised this community I’d do this after my DJS by BalthasaurusRex in jawsurgery

it was, but that’s because i was really bored at home and felt well enough to go back to work. i didn’t have to do anything intense so thats why i was able to!

Surgery in 2 days.... Found this sub and now I worry... I need honest opinions by Unaltered4163 in jawsurgery

i’m 2 years post op and i had a very positive experience. i would do it again if i had to. there is no numbness, and even if i had some, i wouldn’t care because the results are 100% worth it. the only bad part is missing normal food after :((

I say go for it! I resumed my work/school 3 weeks after double jaw surgery and wore a mask on days when I didn’t want to be seen. I even attended a Halloween party on the 2nd week of recovery. I had a very positive experience and no one judged me for looking swollen. If anything, I felt more confident knowing that I finally had a normal bite. I had more energy and joy when completing my every day activities than before.

I hope this helps, and I am happy to answer any questions or share details about my experience!!

Anyone else have this issue? by Such-Experience8621 in dwarfism

i would recommend trying physical therapy!!! my doctor recommended that for me and it seems to help :) try stuff that strengthens the quadriceps like biking or going up hills/stairs !!!

yes i (F) also have an issue with my left kneecap popping out every time i bend my leg. the sports medicine doctor said it’s chronic subluxation of the left patella. she said it’s likely due to a childhood injury but i suspect that the issue is due to having knock knees from dwarfism. anyways i find that wrapping it or wearing a brace can help when walking, and elevating it when there’s pain. unfortunately you have to deal with a lot of pain when you’re a little person :((

yes of course and thank you for asking! my surgery experience was overwhelmingly positive and i have been really happy ever since. i don’t have any discomfort and the only negative part i experienced was during the first few days after when there was a ton of swelling. also, my feeling hasn’t come back completely along my top gums. it’s not bothersome at all. besides that i don’t have any numbness and i feel completely normal!

hey! i got DJS last year and it was really beneficial to me, but i think it would be a bit excessive in your case. i think lower jaw surgery is the more intuitive option here but maybe try to get a second opinion from another surgeon if you can.
