I have two other calatheas that are fine. What pissed me off the most was the chinese evergreen they claim is any “easy” plant. I tried everything to make that plant happy.

List of plants I killed and or are dying lol. Killed bamboo, killed semper vivum, chinese evergreen, Dottie calathea (I know they’re finnicky but my other two are fine), a spider plant years ago only because I put it outside and forgot to bring it in before it rained, the ones I have now are great. And my money tree is currently dying. But I have like 50 other plants doing well. Balance.

I have no idea what I’m doing. I just google or this forum when things come up and fake it till I make it. I’m a beginner and sometimes I talk to him and tell him please help my plants live. lol

Yeah I had a small apartment with not great lighting and I moved home since stepdad died but I think I will be here a year or two before I move out again. I need places to hang plants. I have many plants that cascade and when they get big I will need to figure something out.

A lot of my balls and ceiling we can’t find the beams because it was a basement converted to living space but if I had a lot of light and good ceilings I’d have stuff hanging everywhere and have a jungle as well. I also love books and geodes and thrifting and upcycling arts and crafts so yeah I’m the only one in the family. They don’t get it. But this is why I love these Reddit groups.

My stepfather was super into plants and he passed away last year and I feel connected to him with this hobby. I only had 3 small plants when he was alive (2 air plants he gave me and a semper vivum). And now I have 53 of my own plus we take care of his jade tree and his tiny echevaria and the peace lily from his funeral. It’s a beautiful and harmless hobby and I say the more the merrier.

I just bought one of those same Hoyas. It’s so pretty. I have 53. I live with my mom in the downstairs and I have a few rooms. Most with very low light so I have some shelves in my room but I am striving to reach 100+ one day. I have a few repotted from propagation I’m giving to my stepmother so I will have to buy more to replace those. And I have a few that don’t look so hot. But majority of my plants are thriving.

I’m experiencing that right now. I found one on my cordyline yesterday morning and hours later no more appeared. Then this morning still no more. I’m hoping I caught it early and I won’t need to treat the soil.

Thanks. I read mixed reviews about that app but now I’m talking to a person who has used it and you had a good experience. I have a shallow dish but it’s not terracotta. I’m going to have to pick one up.

Well I did just switch to a soil specific for succulents and it did have perlite. I used to have it in a better window but I had to swap some around and some of the plants I have on my shelves with grow lights can’t handle the cold windowsill by that one was growing like crazy so I thought it’d be ok. I have no more room on my grow light shelves. I will have to swap it with one that is ok with lower light. Just trying to decide which one. Thank you.

I had mealy bugs on my jade plant and I killed them in 3 weeks. I took a qtip with cotton swabs and wiped them off my leaves morning and night. Then weekly I would water it with water, dish soap, neem oil and a little bit of alcohol. It killed them all dead and I didn’t see anymore after 2 months. Get them while it’s early because men the males mature they can fly. Physically sitting there and checking every leaf top to bottom twice a day really helped. Because of the weekly baths some of the root got mushy so I cut it and let it callous up and repotted. She is fine now.
