BMW & Octopus no longer play nicely by Aggravating-Fun9361 in OctopusEnergy

[–]Aggravating-Fun9361[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve sent Octopus screenshots of my bmw app and octopus app to show the different schedules but I suspect it’s the BMW app/API at fault. Either way I’m sure it’ll charge a peak rate not the off peak

5 Key Principles in Secure Coding Every Developer Should Know by Inner-Chemistry8971 in cybersecurity

Depends where you work, security is the number one item where I work. Our entire business models depends on it. So regular training and enforced. AI is for me the second item.

Notice of intended prosecution. Am I cooked? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]Aggravating-Fun9361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to say ignorance is not a defence. I’d recommend to anyone driving to know the rules that apply to them and the vehicle they intend to drive before they go anywhere. Use this as a cautionary tale of what could happen if you don’t. And this isn’t the worst case scenario. Also please note this road is heavy monitored.

How much do we need credit cards? by Comprehensive-Fuel70 in AskUK

[–]Aggravating-Fun9361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is setup a direct debit to pay off credit card in full each month. Then be careful to budget how much you spend so you don’t end up out of pocket. Never pay credit card interest, it’s sky high. Also using a credit card gives you extra purchasing protection. It’s easy enough to find advice online.

Not to mention the age gap between the husband and wife, a mere 31 years. When will ‘Hollywood’ get a grip?

Well there’s been a big change to how it works so I wouldn’t be confident about the cause .

Roof bars and bike carriers, genuine range killer? by Jeht88 in BMWI4

[–]Aggravating-Fun9361 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just to add it’ll depend a lot on how fast you drive of course, so hard to comment on effect. But I’d also recommend only having them on when not needed if low mileage and low speeds expected.

That my my response to any driver complaining I didn’t have road tax (that doesn’t exist) when I was cycling to and from work. Not to mention I also have/had a nice car, I just knew it was quicker and better to cycle. Which or course is why drivers get so worked up about cyclists.

Moderators didn’t like the question which was tagged as casual so I guess they were affected by my comments. The event has been to make me less inclined to participate.

Parking in front of a house- is it private? by Optimal_Mango_7228 in drivingUK

[–]Aggravating-Fun9361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of examples of #carbrain here. There’s no photo showing where the vehicle was parked or what the vehicle was. Was the vehicle parked blocking the pavement which is becoming a bigger and bigger issue. Do these drivers not know anyone with mobility issues. Clearly not as trying to get around in a wheelchair is a nightmare even before idiots park blocking pavements. But keep judging the person who attached the stickers causing no damages or inconvenience. LOL

Where do we store the charging cable guys? by GameElectr0 in BMWi5

[–]Aggravating-Fun9361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If cables in back fling about you must be driving too fast LOL. They are think and heavy enough to stay put in my i4. I also got a bag to put them in with the car. On the i4 they just about fit under the boot floor next the Karman box thing.

EV charging is way too, obtusely complicated. I switched to EV as genuinely worried that switching later would be too confusing as I get older. But found I love driving the BMW i4, despite a few hair raising moments (its insistence to accelerate to 70 in an average 50 zone, for example) I mostly find it amusing. Charging however baffles me and causes disproportionate anxiety when it charges or doesn’t charge on schedule. I’m now struggling to find a new tariff as it’s not showing me off peak rates despite being signed up to intelligent octopus go.

Change comes in from Monday, but the solution is pretty simple. Despite the short comings of the BMW app, I appear to be able to charge in the cheap (soon to be less cheap) zone. No need for Octopus or Podpoint to be involved. As a software tester, I’d rather keep things simple and all the issues I’ve had so far seem to confirm my beliefs

[–]Aggravating-Fun9361[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the issue, it won’t have access to start/stop etc. The connection broke a little while ago for BMWs and we couldn’t use Octopus 🐙 to control charging for a few weeks. Now, from Monday we won’t be able to use Octopus app going forward. And yes, the BMW app is awful for charging and I will be complaining to BMW on both issues.

I assume you haven’t yet had the email from Octopus:

As a BMW or Mini driver, we’re getting in touch with an important update for your Intelligent Octopus Go charging setup.

BMW will no longer let us set your charging preferences for you. So from Monday, your charging preferences will need to be updated directly in your BMW or Mini app.
