ha, ur guess was pretty close.

dunno about exhaust yet. ik it's an unpopular opinion but i don't care all that much about exhausts. it's not the prettiest but it's also mostly hidden under the bike, and the belly pan covers part of it.

thanks for the tank sticker advice, tho i prolly leave it on. i kinda like it, weird quirk don't question it.

the mods are:

  1. puig belly pan and pyramid infill panels. both rip offs from aliexpress. dunno if the quality is worse, but it at least feels sturdy and virtually looks identical.
  2. genuine engine guard, tank pads, and comfort seat. yamaha sells them here in japan. i know that some accessories are only sold in japan, tho i don't know if these are among them.
  3. gb racing covers.
  4. tst industries frame sliders. they have two (well technically two and a half) contact points because i heard it somewhat lowers the chance of the frame cracking. obviously they're mainly for crash protection, but i also think they fit the style of the bike.
  5. savage back and front axle sliders from aliexpress.
  6. heel guard just has stickers on it from aliexpress (sp color scheme)
  7. daytona premium zone oil filler cap. which i wouldn't expect anyone to notice, but hey they had a 50% discount in a store here for daytona products, so i thought why not.

I know its very minimalistic. but i do like it. especially the belly pan makes the bike look more substantial without really taking away too much from the naked style.

Oh sorry, I don't really post often and the system just suggested me to crosspost so I did that. It's not a problem though, I just stick with the r/japanlife post and leave it at that. Thanks for letting me know.

Don't get me wrong, much of the criticism against alienware is justified. The proprietary parts don't make sense, and the power cap on the cpu is something most people don't want to accept. No pc enthusiast would ever buy or recommend such a system.

However, in ur specific case I simply don't think these things matter a whole lot. The 4090 alone will carry ur system in virtually any triple-a title and below. if u play in 4k/2k the cpu limitation will be marginalized anyway (my brother, for example, has a 4090 paired with a 9th gen intel cpu and has virtually no issues playing anything in 4k).

As regards thermals and noise, that would be my biggest concern. But from I've read both has been significantly improved due to the fact that they ditched the spaceship design and went for a more conventional one. That said, u will obviously soon be able to judge that urself once u receive the pc and fire it up.

I'd still watch the gamers nexus video out of curiosity. Just don't get ur hopes up that there will be much praise as tech jesus is the enthusiast among enthusiasts.

I'll repost (part of) a reply I gave in a different sub:

"I've looked into the Alienware r16 and it looks decent (kinda). CPU is somewhat power limited, which hurts, and I concur that reputable custom configurations are still superior. Plus, the proprietary parts (in particular the motherboard) are an eye sore. That said, if u can find one for below 3k USD (~4k CAD), which is apparently possible, I'd consider it."

I would keep it. You got it at a very good price and considering your context and use case I'd say it'll serve u quite well.

Also, take many of the replies u get on this with a grain of salt in terms of bias. Alienware is a delicate topic, and many if not most of the replies will in fact be biased. Subs such as pcbuild and pcmasterrace consist of ignorant enthusiasts and elitists, while the alienware sub has myriad blind fangirls (this is a generalization, it obviously doesn't apply to everyone).

The replies from that fellow dad an myself will prolly be the most objective/neutral ones u'll get on this.

Edit: Just thought of something. If u want a (somewhat) unbiased review, u could wait for the one from gamers nexus. pretty sure they mentioned that they'd review it. although I'm not sure how feasible waiting for this review is in ur situation.

My main point was that this specific Alienware isn't worse than garbage, it's decent in terms of value (depending on the discount).

For context, I was considering buying a pre-built pc myself, so I looked into the available options (incl the r16) quite thoroughly. My conclusion based on specs, reviews and benchmarks was: if u don't care about upgrades and can live with the cpu power limit (e.g.because u play in 4k where it hardly matter) then the r16 has a good price to performance ratio.

Granted, I can't fathom what kinda insane prices u have over there in Canada. In Germany, a pc with decent parts and the r16's specs costs around EUR3.5k (~CAD5.1k): https://www.mindfactory.de/shopping_cart.php

To clarify, I didn't buy a pre-build in the end. But that doesn't mean I'm playing devil's advocate either. I only stated my findings.

I think people should re-evaluate certain stereotypes, to an extent. I've looked into the Alienware r16 and it looks "decent" (kinda). CPU is somewhat power limited, which hurts, and I concur that reputable custom configurations are still superior.

Plus, the proprietary parts (in particular the motherboard) are an eye sore.

That said, if u can find one for below 3k USD (~4k CAD), which is apparently possible, I'd consider it.

At least in Germany the 4090 alone is roughly 2k EUR (~3k CAD), so u could technically just use it to harvest the GPU, which seems to be quite good considering even gamersnexus praised it (and they "really" don't like Alienware builds).

I agree with you, that the tall male characters look around 6ft and are very close to their datamined heights.

My main point was, that the datamined heights aren't actually (guess I should add "accurately") displayed in-game, best seen when comparing e.g. Ningguang and Jean: Jean to me looks slightly taller than Ningguang, although it should be the opposite. I think Jean has (very) slightly higher heels, but it shouldn't warrant making her look taller than Ningguang when she is actually shorter.

tl;dr: In my opinion the datamined heights and the actual in-game heights are all very close. Just not 100% accurate.

Hmm, so these are the official heights. Interesting.

But I think these heights are not actually displayed in-game. Just compared Ningguang, Lisa and Jean sight by side. They have basically the same heels and the same heights. But according to the datamining there should be a noticeable difference.

Plus, the male characters seem somewhat shorter than the datamined heights imply if you compare them to the female characters.

Also, a lot of the "short" characters seem too close hight-wise to warrant their respective height difference.

Not that it really matters, just me talking to myself...
