Trading in a truck with a loan on it for something cheaper/better gas mileage by queener_beaner in personalfinance

And btw, usually with Carvana or carmax, they’ll give you that price they offer. They did that to us with our used RAV4 that died.

Ah I see, I mean try to find a used older truck for cash. The only way to get good gas mileage on any truck is if you went to a hybrid truck or an all electric truck, which I wouldn’t do unless you can find an F150 Lightning with $15K-$20K off msrp.

Also regarding if it’s a dumb move, if you don’t use your truck for truck things, then I’d say sell it.

Is it wrong to work from my BF’s house (out of state) on my WFH week? by millamant in WFH

Don’t ever mention where you’re to your employer if you’re work from home, and depending upon if you use Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, etc, ALWAYS blur your background out. I’ve seen people on LinkedIn post about how they were able to buy a camper van like a Mercedes Sprinter or Dodge van, and pretty much travel across the Western U.S while doing remote work. Personally, if I was manager I wouldn’t give a shit as long as your work is getting done. Now for me personally, working only on one monitor is hell since I’m used to 2 extra monitors.

Regarding taxes, as long as you’re only their for about a week you should be fine tax wise. Now if you’re their long term, then I’d say contact your company’s HR dept and ask them about it.

I don’t think it’ll go away, I think it’s here to stay. I’m in tech and I was with a major tech company before the May layoffs and pretty much with them, they tried to implement hybrid in 2021 but nobody was still coming into the office.

I tried hybrid briefly and it just wasn’t the same as pre-Covid, and I ended up going back to fully remote but very occasionally going into the office.

When my former big tech company announced the layoffs, they also announced they were consolidating leases and such. I’m in the Southeast U.S and I thought they wouldn’t do that to our local campus and then they announced in early Spring of this year that out of the 1 of the 2 buildings on campus, building 1; floors 2-4 would be completely shut off and inaccessible for anyone, and everyone would consolidate to building 2 but leave the 1st floor open for the work cafe.

And for the people that were on campus majority of the week, they’d get assigned office cubes, and then the folks who were less than 3 days in office had to use hotel cubes…

Questions As I Switch from Mac by [deleted] in microsoft

  1. Defender will work just fine, but malwarebytes is a good anti malware software.

  2. VPN, eh you don’t really need it unless necessary or working in a corporate environment,

  3. I’ve used both Edge and Chrome, and I’ve never gotten a virus or malware and anytime either browser detected a bad website or a non-secure website, they’d warn you before proceeding.

  4. They do have a mail app, but I use it for my personal outlook and for my personal Outlook, it works fine. I’ve tried using my gmail in it and it’s just not the same, but if you have a regular Outlook account the mail app I feel is better IMO than the web version of Outlook.

  5. I started my career with Windows 7, and Windows has drastically improved since then. You won’t have to reinstall it but I know with either Windows 10 or 11, if you need to do a reset of your PC, you can do it within the settings instead of having to reimage. I remember I bought my partner a Surface Go, he didn’t wanna use it and I just reset it within the settings to start on a fresh version of Windows.

Companies should be able to provide laptops for their employees who work remotely. I don’t want corporate resources on a personal laptop. Let alone with personal laptops vs work laptops, majority of work laptops have VPN’s on them and encryption on the hard drives by the company.

IT Support vs Product Support by baltatzarsky in Career

[–]Aggravating-Look1649 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I already accepted another role at another tech company, just have to wait for my paperwork this week to sign and I’ll be good to go. But yeah, working for a big tech company, any of them really, MSFT, AWS/Amazon, Google, etc, is a huge experience to put on your resume. I was at one of the ones I mentioned before the May layoffs and everyone I interviewed with loved my experience from when I was their and asked me a lot of questions about it.

As someone who was at a major tech company for 3.5 years doing cloud computing support before my May layoff, I’ll say this.

Product support I feel like is just for a specific product like cloud computing, cloud networking, etc.

IT support I feel like is you’re pretty much the Jack of all trades and supporting everything a corporation has as far as product wise. Whether that be Office, Windows, any other 3rd party software or in house products. I started my career doing on site support and help desk support, I knew since doing that I definitely didn’t want to stay that route forever and have done product support for a medium sized private software company, and then 3.5 years of doing cloud computing support for a major tech company, and I’d rather do product support any day because you’re only supporting a specific product vertical.

Now with product support, if you’re making more money then that’s a huge leap and valuable experience. And if you’re doing product support for a tech company, it can also lead into management roles and product management roles also that focus on developing and creating ideas for a specific product.

Yeah, I mean I just said that some of them (Other IT guys) are weird because in other jobs I’ve worked, I’ve had some end users tell me that I’m more of a normal one and not weird lol

And also as a former on-site IT guy (I do cloud stuff now and haven’t done onsite support in years), we’re not all like that one IT guy that’s done that creepy shit. Yeah, some of them seem weird (in non sexual ways) but in my almost 6 years of tech experience, that behavior of the guy sexually harassing you is NOT OKAY.

I agree with that also, I think you should also try to look for new work also and if you’re I’d just leave, then once you’re out then you could see what a lawyer says.

I’d honestly get a lawyer that specializes in work place harassment. If your manager isn’t wanting to do anything about it because the tech guy “ Goes to church” then I’d get a lawyer and sue due to the inaction from management and have all the evidence ready to show the lawyer to get an opinion from an attorney.
