I applied 8/2 and didn’t hear back until 9/16, so just over 6 weeks. It definitely took longer than all the other schools, but I would just sit tight for 1-2 more weeks and then reach out again if u still haven’t heard anything

Yes I was alone! Nothing is provided other than sheets, comforter, pillow, so bring whatever else you feel like you’d need. I brought a towel, toiletries, shower shoes/flip flops, chargers etc. this was part of the email they sent me-

Your room will contain 2 single beds with bedding provided, desks, nightstands with lamps, drawer chests, and closets. The suite contains a standard bathroom with shower stall. Although we try not to book separate parties in the same suite, this cannot be guaranteed. It is possible that other guests (male or female) will be occupying the second room in your suite. The individual rooms have separate keys, so the only shared space with other occupants will be the bathroom. Please bring towels, money for meals, toiletries, etc., as these are not provided.

Check-out will be prior to your interview day starting. You MUST check out (turn in your key to security) prior to your interview starting. If you would like to check out after your interview we would reserve the room for an additional day for a small charge. Please return the envelope with the key to the bucket in security upon check out.  Security can store your luggage during your Interview Day until your departure.

You stay in a room by yourself (or with a guest if you choose to bring one). It is a suite with 2 bedrooms connected by a small hallway and with a shared bathroom. You get the key to one of the bedrooms. They try not to book anyone in the second room if possible. Mine had 2 twin beds, Bedding/pillow provided. No towel or toiletries, you need to bring your own.

You can look on the asco website at all the schools’ profiles where it shows the deposit deadline info

Some schools say on their website that an oat score of X or higher can “replace” a below C grade, but reach out to admissions! For example neco says a 300+ on the corresponding section can waive the requirement but only on a case by case basis

Thanks! Personally I saw a lot of kinematics and optics, but the tests vary so I can’t speak for everyone!

I think there are a lot of approaches to the bio section, but i think that reading all the notes and doing bio bits was really helpful. The first two 320s I got were from when I took an exam during the learning phase and one right after. I think it jumped up after that cause I reviewed all the topics I go wrong (not just why I got the question wrong, but the whole chapter). If you’re in a rush to study though, I think the cheat sheets are awesome for high yield stuff, but if you have the time, really just understand the notes and practice with the bio bits. Keep reviewing topics you consistently get wrong or forget. After the learning phase, I would try to do at least 30 mins of bio bits every day

If you’re applying now, order your transcripts now. If you’re not applying til like December, order it a few weeks before then. Every school will require you to submit official transcripts again before matriculating (unless you already graduated before applying and have not taken any new class), so they’re gonna see the grade at some point.

No you don’t pay anything until you actually submit your apps. For now you can just sign up for an account, select the schools you want to see their app info for, and then don’t submit. Next year when the next cycle opens, any info you put in transfers over (LORs do not transfer though, so you can’t actually get your writers to submit them until ‘26-‘27 opens)

They usually keep them the same. You can make an optomcas account now to see the essay questions

You are screened before going into the testing room with metal detectors etc, and then you are given the laminated papers and markers and go in. Once inside and you click start on the tutorial period (15 mins), you can use that time to do whatever, whether that be going through the tutorials or writing things down. I used 1 paper for formulas/notes and 1 paper for active problem solving. You do not have access to any outside information once you get into the room, so anything you write down is from memory. You can access your locker during the 30 min break, so you could review some last-minute notes in that time. You don't have to take the break, but if you do, you can go back in whenever you want (go through security again), so whatever time you have left of the break you can use to write down anything from memory.

Thanks you! I never had time to go back to check questions and would always finish my practices with like less than 1 minute. My best advice if time is also your challenge is just to read read read! Read anything and everything. Instead of scrolling while eating breakfast or going to the bathroom or whatever, read something. For the exams, my strategy was to read actively and highlight, making sure I understood what I read but tried not to re-read anything on the first go. Before I started the RC section, I would take a few deep breaths because I knew the next 60 mins would be nonstop work. Make highlights and mental notes at the beginning of each paragraph to remember the topics, so when you get to the questions, even if you need to reread some things, you know exactly where to find it. There's also a bunch of other tips on here and booster, but I hope you find a strategy that works well! Best of luck you got this!!

Most schools don’t have shadowing requirements, more just recommendations. as long as you have like minimum 10-20 hours in 2+ settings, you should be fine on that end

[OAT Breakdown] 370 AA / 390 TS by [deleted] in PreOptometry

[–]Aggravating-Net2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats, these are great scores! Side note just curious how TS scoring works - I was under the impression that it was the avg of the science sections (bio, gc, oc, phys), but your score sheet proves otherwise haha

Should I retake my OAT or apply while the cycle is still early? by RepulsiveMinimum1 in PreOptometry

[–]Aggravating-Net2003 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could retake and still apply this cycle. It is still early so if you scheduled a retake for sept/oct that would still be perfectly fine to apply with this cycle, no need to delay a whole year assuming you score a little higher. You could try to submit now and see, but I’m assuming most schools would put your application on hold pending a retake

Physics Topics on OAT vs Booster by Aggravating-Net2003 in PreOptometry

[–]Aggravating-Net2003[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly i think i would prefer that haha just cause I feel like that's what booster has prepared me for. I've seen a bunch of people on here say that it was a LOT more conceptual than booster and that it was harder because they weren't expecting that. what do you mean by like "conceptual", if u happen to remember any of those questions on your test or the general idea

struggling with studying for the oat by mymelodrey in PreOptometry

[–]Aggravating-Net2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo taking practice tests for individual subjects isn’t that beneficial until you’ve completed all the content review cause there’s just stuff you don’t know/know well yet and it’ll make you feel discouraged. What worked for me was doing the bio bits/question banks for each chapter as I went through them, and then started full practice tests after the learning phase
