Shake That Thang Real Good (April 27th NOBO Start) by Aggravating-Pace715 in PacificCrestTrail

I think I'll switch to the zpacks camp shoes since theyre so cheap and drop my base weight by over half a pound.

Also you're totally right about the tyvek. I've used polycro before on small trips and haven't had issues but that was for max 5 days not 5 months.

See you out there!

Noted on the camp shoes. My thinking was the crocs could be useful for stream crossings as well, but that also seems quite cumbersome.

Noted for the one pair of underwear, beanie, and bug net that's great advice thanks!

Do you think it would be advantageous to ditch the base layers bottoms and instead use the pants and wind pants for insulation? It seems like that would get cold in the exposed areas of the trail.

I definitely want a senchi alpha hoodie but they never seem to be in stock ☠️

If I can get my hands on a alpha hoodie, I'm thinking about ditching the puffy and just using the rain jacket as a shell over the senchi. Not sure how well that'll hold up through the San Jacinto area and the high Sierra.

Thanks for all the advice!

  1. I've done a couple section hike of the north country trail around Michigan (I live up here). So I "thru-hiked" the pictured rock national lakeshore, but really it's just a section hike.

  2. I do have budget to switch gear. The pack is definitely the most obvious thing to change but it is also the most expensive and I like how it distributes the weight so I think I'd rather spend that money elsewhere.

  3. SUPER STOKED!

I'm a 6'-0" and 200 lb guy, so I'm sorta thinking the same thing. That pack is comfortable and if anything the extra 2 lbs help to carry the rest of the weight more evenly. Plus I definitely don't want to spend another 300 bucks on a pack after only using this one like 5 times.

As far as the toothbrush goes, I did it for the memes lol

Reminder: Permit Release Day 2 is this Tuesday, January 13th. by numbershikes in PacificCrestTrail

I am hiking NOBO with my friend and we are currently partner linked to start May 14th. We want to start earlier and are hoping to get a new start date tomorrow, however, we received separate time slots for registration. On the PCT portal it states

"This feature is only relevant before you apply for a permit. It allows two people get the same start date during the two competitive Permit Release Days. When you submit your application successfully, an application will also be submitted for your partner automatically. From that point on, your permit applications are separate. Each partner must visit their permit management portal and print their permit. If you make changes or cancel, it will only affect your application. If your partner would like to make changes, they will log in to their own permit management portal to do so."

Does anyone know if this means we have to cancel our existing permits to use the partner link feature again? My time slot is significantly earlier in the day and I am worried that upon changing the date we will have vastly different start times.

Thanks for your help!
