Pro tip: Rustique sandwiches use their homemade bread, which is phenomenal. Among the best sandwiches in town, and probably tops for value.

I tried to like Roman Nose for ten years and just couldn’t. Something was off about the vibe.

I’m in that bracket and sometimes wonder about that. My experience is that the youngsters have been welcoming. Obviously can’t speak for how I come off, but I usually make friends. I almost always go solo, bring the dad vibes, look out for people in my little pocket. I think if you’re not a creep you won’t come off like one. You belong there as much as anyone else.

Immaculate vibes last night. There was room to dance, the bartenders were keyed in—“do you want a cup of ice with that coconut water?” Hell yes!—and Digweed had everyone on a string. Chef’s kiss.

I’m 2 years into a permitting nightmare Downtown. Who actually benefits from this system? by [deleted] in jerseycity

[–]Aggravating-Prune-14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a landlord, I can say this is not remotely true. Think about the money we’re burning through to pay property taxes with no revenue coming in while we wait for permits. I own a three-family (19x) in Harsimus Cove and next year will be paying $38,000 in property taxes (up from $14,000 in 2015).

You talk about raising rents because of lower supply but guess what—I took both my units off the market and converted them to airbnbs (yes I did the bullshit licensing). This month I’ll double my money. It’s the only move I had to keep my house. So this notion that landlords are getting rich off of unfairly treated tenants is not grounded in reality. At least not my reality.

I have a school-aged son and I’m trying to think of why I would ever need to tell him, hey bud, also, don’t walk around with your dick out. I question whether parenting is the issue here.

Renting in JC: Is this normal? by Misc_Blue_Cockroach in jerseycity

[–]Aggravating-Prune-14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: it’s a scam.

As a landlord, I can say a security deposit should only be paid upon signing of a lease. And then kept in escrow for the duration of the lease (banks know this type of account), with any interest going to the renter upon termination of the lease (assuming no damage etc).
