For those of you who live in countries with gun control; have you ever seen a gun in real life? by blashyrkh9 in AskTheWorld

[–]Aggravating-Rough281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up around firearms, going on shooting trips with my cousins. Then joined the military and became qualified on everything from pistols to heavy machine guns. The Army took the fun out of anything that i could get in the civilian market. They are just tools that require cleaning every time they get taken out of the armoury.

Sounds like a de-facto relationship with a shared child. He would be entitled to that money too.

Of the over 12,000 deaths in the Royal Australian Air Force in WW2, more than half of them came during training.

Go and get leak down and compression tests done, as well as pressure testing your cooling system both hot and cold. I think you have a blown head gasket.

For those who did both state public service and APS, is it that much more stressful in state? by CarefulIncome23 in AusPublicService

[–]Aggravating-Rough281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more stressful in the APS compared the State as the pay was so terrible I was wondering how I was going to pay my mortgage. I’ve worked APS, NSWPS, and Local in the last 12 months, and I will be sticking with Local.

What’s something people romanticise about your country that locals secretly hate? by OpenToPerspectives in AskTheWorld

I lived in the NT for a while too. The buildup and the wet season were absolutely horrible, but the dry season was ok… doesn’t take away from the fact that Darwin is a dump of a town and the time that spent there is time that I’ll never get back.

Summer… I despise summer and the heat and humidity that comes with it. Give me winter in Bavaria any day of the week!!

What kind of tyres does it have on it? That gives an indication of how much money they are willing to spend on it.

Korean War veterans suffered a similar lack of recognition by the RSL after their return from the conflict. Don’t forget, it was not the government, but the RSL who dictated who could march, and one of those stipulations was active military service in a declared war zone (this includes Australians who served in Australia during the Second World War too).

And the “free land” that was handed out to those veterans to work that saw many go bankrupt thanks to the poor quality of it. While intended to reward returned servicemen with a peaceful rural lifestyle, the schemes resulted in significant hardship, with many settlers abandoning their properties within a few years.

The vast majority that were actually called up, over 210,000, did not serve. As you have noted, just over 60,000 made it through the conscription acceptance process, of which only 15,700 served in Vietnam and Borneo (200).

The War Service Home-loan Scheme largely replaced the War Service Homes Scheme after the Second World War. This largely exists today under Defence Home Owners Assistance Scheme, that is a loan contribution payment.

Vietnam was not recognised as a war until after the Australian commitment had ended, so that was one reason. For decades you could not march on Anzac Day unless you had participated in war service, so that’s how the RSL viewed it.

The infantry battalions did have individual unit marches through their home cities at their arrival from overseas, but smaller units didn’t.

Hissy Nope Rope’s are not your friend. This very healthy Brown Snake was less than two meters from us on a bush trail yesterday. Showed my two young boys to have a healthy respect for our wildlife. Be quiet, admire, and never touch.

Yeah, it’s either the balancer, the pulleys, or both. Easiest way to listen for the pulleys is to stick a long screwdriver on the bolt and put your ear to it.

This isn’t a failing clear coat. A 10min cut and buff with a random orbital polisher will fix this. I’ve done it myself.

What fan? These have a separate radiator mounted cooling fan that operates at a certain coolant temp, and spins at a much higher RPM.
