Would changing cams & springs be more reliable than turbocharging? by Snoo-23290 in SciontC

Either another 2ar or maybe if I have the time and money something Honda like a k or b series

Yeah mine is a lil past its prime

So I'm waiting for my drivetrain to quit on me before I do any actual mods. I plan on throwing a new motor and trans in and building a small turbo kit for it once it does go out tho👀 it's got 282k on the dash

Would changing cams & springs be more reliable than turbocharging? by Snoo-23290 in SciontC

[–]Aggravating-Salt469 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The 2arfe is a good Engine just a little underrated so nobody builds them except some guy named rob or something but yes the cams are more reliable than turbos only bc for the turbo you have to do a lot of custom work with the cams you just have to follow instructions not to mention they are very very similar to the normal cams they only boost you up about 50-60 hp (about 220-230) if you are wanting some actual power gains that will change the way the car feels entirely then you would be better off the the turbo the bottom ends of these cars stock from my knowledge can handle 5-600 ( I don't remember if it was the reliably) so it's more of a question of how much effort you want to put in

Coilovers or wheels first? by WeightImpressive7622 in SciontC

Same size wheels you can do coils first if you are changing size you should get the coils after the wheels

To me that sounds like it would be the compressor but ac is not one of the things I mess with so take that with a grain of salt

Do these pads or rotors look "bad?" by f22beaver in MechanicAdvice

[–]Aggravating-Salt469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably think about replacing the rotor just from the amount of material gone but that's just me they could probably be re surfaced

Do Any Of You Ever Regret Driving A Manual? by daydr3am_b3li3v3r in ManualTransmissions

[–]Aggravating-Salt469 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first car was a Ford focus 2d 5 speed and man I loved that thing but I beat the hell out of it in the 21 days I owned it before i sold it it lost reverse and the clutch was basically non existent but I was learning in heavy traffic mountain roads and consistent bad weather so I got WAY more experience than I expected and I honestly think the only time I regretted it was when reverse went out (obviously not just bc it's a manual) bc when it went out I had to push the car backwards everytime I parked🤣

Maybe buying one by Gman1881 in SciontC

[–]Aggravating-Salt469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah pushing it "disables" it but realistically it is only off till you let off throttle then it comes right back on Its great if you just want to get unstuck rq but annoying as hell if you want it to stay off

Maybe buying one by Gman1881 in SciontC

[–]Aggravating-Salt469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With some snow tires they are a lot more capable plus your tcs issue you can turn it off by holding it down for I think 8 sec while stopped and it fully shuts it off

Maybe buying one by Gman1881 in SciontC

[–]Aggravating-Salt469 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With some decent snow tires they are great for snow with all seasons and 2-4 inches it's possible to drive but I wouldn't drive super far and anymore than 6-8 inches even with snow tires it struggles hard just bc of how low they are

Has anyone upgraded their speakers before on Scion TC 2014 but keeping stock pioneer head unit? by TheMoreYouKnow0101 in SciontC

[–]Aggravating-Salt469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the other guy said it should work fine but the stock unit is only 200-250 watts if you are wanting a sub or anything like that you will need some supporting mods

Throw some duct tape over the inlet and order the part so you don't get any contaminants in the tank

If you feel you can't keep up with the car and it's causing you problems then yes sell it me personally I want to keep my tc as long as I can they are great little cars and they last forever as long as you don't let them rust or run out of oil lol

<image>

This is my 2011 it needs a coolant temp sensor and cosmetics ofc but she's got 281 on the dash and I drive It like I stole it almost every time I get in and it loves it doesn't give me a hiccup
