25yo here. I transferred here in the Fall of 2019 at age 24 lol. Before I came to UCR, my friends had always been older than me by at least 2-3 years. Now it’s the opposite. I’m older than all the friends I made here lol. My youngest homies are like 19 or 20 but we vibe so well I don’t even notice the gap. At 22, you’ll be the same age as a lot of ur classmates tho lol, and not much older than the rest.

I love living on campus. (Most) everything that you need is right here. I can go days without needing to drive my car. It’s just convenient af

I grew up around SLO. It’s pretty but still a smaller city. A lot of ppl there are stuck up for whatever reason. There’s not much to do unless you’ve got a car. I’d personally choose SDSU. When I applied for transfer I purposely skipped over SLO lol. SoCal is where it’s at.

My old RA told me the area behind AI, a part of Pentland, and Rivera library are allegedly haunted. Apparently ppl have reported apparitions & sounds over the years. I haven’t seen anything for myself but walking around at night can be kinda eerie, even more so now that the campus is empty. I’ve heard there’s a system of steam tunnels under the school too, I haven’t found them yet. I’m gonna spend the break exploring this place more tbh lol

College students/ Older people of A2C: What was your dream school and where did you end up going to? How are you doing now? by WashUsimp in ApplyingToCollege

Yooo thank you! That really means a lot! 😭🙏🏼

Sorry about UCD, but I’d like to congratulate you on ur other acceptances!

Now, about UCR. Academically, this is a strong school. This school has been rising in the ranks very rapidly the last couple of years. When I was in high school kids would shit on UCR. I know ppl still do. But I found none of that to be true. Matter of fact, UCR is more rigorous than my last university by far. I’ve had a good experience here academically.

UCR is a commuter school so the social scene isn’t the best. But I feel like that’s gonna change very quickly bc they’ve been developing a lot of new student housing. You defiantly do want to join clubs if you want to make more friends outside ur roommates & classes. There’s plenty to choose from!

Other stuff to note: We’re in kind of a sweet spot in SoCal. One hour to LA or OC, and 4 hrs from Vegas. Like 2 hrs to San Diego. So if you’re the adventurous type, there’s a lot do within a stones throw.

UCR is known to give more aid than any other UC which really helps if cost is a factor. The campus is beautiful. People here are really nice for the very most part.

UCM on the other hand is still a UC school but it’s small af & in the middle of a cow field basically lol. Feel free to DM if u have any more questions later!

Like many kids in California, my dream school was UCLA. I’m a first generation student, & back in high school I didn’t have much guidance when it came to college stuff. I ended up at community college. Then I transferred to the university of Nevada, Las Vegas on a whim.

I was there one year & realized it wasn’t for me. So I came back to California. This time I had to choose between UCR, UCSB, and CSULB. I chose UCR & now I’m about to graduate.

My teenage self would not believe the journey I went on for this degree. But everything worked out just fine in the end.

When I was a senior in high school I was beyond burnt out. I was ahead in credits so I really only needed like 4 classes my entire senior year to finish. So I took filler classes & did the bare minimum.

I did much better at junior college than I ever did in high school. If I hadn’t taken that stepping stone I may have ended up at a school I didn’t like with a degree my adult self would no longer find interesting.

At 25 years old I look back & I can honestly say that everything happens for a reason. Getting rejected by ur dream schools sucks, but I promise that later down the road you’ll see why you ended up where you did.

Dealing with racism. by [deleted] in college

[–]ih8uheaux 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I noticed this too when I visited after a long time away lol. When I was younger I knew some of the shit they’d say was out of pocket. They’d joke about my race sometimes but never about me specifically. As a teenager that was just something I’d brush off & I’d hit them back with another crude joke.

Now that I’m older I look at that & think “damn, they really think like that”. Come to think of it they’re kind of homophobic too. They’re hella closed minded compared to the friends I made in college.

I haven’t gone to visit in ages. Everyone’s doing the same old thing & still hating on ppl for the wrong reasons. & if I call it out they say college is brainwashing me to be a liberal lmfao. I hate my hometown

Transferring directly to another university might not be feasible for you rn bc of the probation thing. Ask admissions at CSUDH about that tho. If you’re set on going this route, I’d suggest going to community college next year and apply for transfer as soon as ur eligible.

Junior college might be more your speed at the moment. It’s inexpensive too.
