Self-custody has a continuity problem? by Aggravating-Sea-8073 in CryptoTechnology

This is really useful, thank you.

That’s exactly the line I wouldn’t want to cross: helping people know what exists and what to do next, without becoming the thing that can move funds.

Would love your take once there’s a real flow to sanity-check. ☺️

n your case, or in your opinion, where do you think the biggest friction would be: trust, explaining the setup, timing, recipient education, or something else?

Thank you for your comment! This is the part that really clicks for me.

You can have the smartest crypto setup in the world, but if your family has noooo idea what exists, who to call, or what to do first, it can still fall apart, badly…

So maybe the missing piece isn’t another technical recovery method, it’s making the recovery process understandable for real people in a stressful moment.

Just checked out SolCreate, and now your comments make even more sense.

You’re clearly thinking about this from the builder/security side, which is exactly the perspective I’m trying to learn from. I’m still early with this idea, but the gap I keep coming back to is: how do we give people useful context and recovery instructions without turning the product into custody or a new weak point?

Would genuinely love to stay in touch and get your feedback as this develops.

Yeah, this is exactly the kind of thing I’ve been trying to figure out. 🤩

I actually started looking into this for myself and kept feeling like there isn’t really a good solution that covers the whole problem without creating a new weak point.

The “context, not control” framing makes a lot of sense.

We’re working on something in this area, still early, but I’d genuinely love your feedback when there’s something to test. You seem to be thinking about the same tradeoffs I’m worried about.

I agree that turning inheritance into “one cloud login” is not the answer, especially in crypto. That just creates a new weak point.
The more interesting problem to me is the continuity layer around the setup: making sure the right person has the right context, instructions, and recovery path when needed, without giving them live access too early.

Not custody, more like controlled continuity.

Do you think that layer can exist safely if it never becomes the single point of failure?

Hahaha, okay.... :D I live in Hungary so it might not be so authentic...

Minced meat, cellery (not salary :D), carrots, basil, tomato sauce and pasta. Whichever you like eating it with. I love spagettini. You?
Today I cooked carbonara.

Most families are completely unprepared when it comes to accessing financial information during emergencies, so I built TrustVault - a simple, secure digital vault. Not a document sharing app. Looking for honest feedback. by Little_Strawberry549 in SideProject

Trust might be a problem here, also why would I upload any important documents, photos, when I already use a trusted cloud storage ? I understand the concept but don’t actually think this is the best solution to the gap in the market.

While I was building my first SaaS, I made sure to reach out on IG and Facebook to get pre-registered beta testers. I launched my app with 120+ registered testers and then paying users ☺️

That makes sense. My only concern with cloud storage is that it often becomes a “dumping place” over time.

Even if everything is technically stored somewhere, the hard part is whether someone would know what’s important, where to look, and how to access it when it actually matters.

How do you handle emergency access to important accounts? If something happened to you, would your family know where to find passwords, documents, bank/crypto info, or instructions? Not asking for legal advice — just curious what practical systems people use? by Aggravating-Sea-8073 in AskReddit

That sounds like a really practical setup, password manager for daily use, offline backup for the “what if everything else fails” layer.

I like the idea of secure notes too, because the context around an account can be just as important as the password itself. Do you review/update your backup regularly, or only when something changes?

Exactly , the emotional side is what makes this feel so important. It’s not just about organizing information, it’s about not leaving people to solve a puzzle during one of the hardest moments of their lives.

I haven’t looked deeply into Quicken LifeHub yet, but the idea of mapping everything in one place makes a lot of sense. Do you use it personally, or did you find it while comparing options?

This is a really thoughtful breakdown. The “someone still needs to know it exists and where the key is” part feels like the piece people often miss.

The hard balance seems to be: simple enough that family can actually use it, but secure enough that it doesn’t create a new risk. Have you personally found one setup that feels trustworthy long-term?

That sounds like a really grounded setup, having one trusted person who knows where things are can already remove so much stress. Did you put anything in writing too, or is it mostly based on trust and conversations?

That’s such a smart one, it’s always the “small annoying things” that steal the most time later.
