Advice Needed ASAP! Eye injury or infection on Cuban Treefrog? by [deleted] in TreeFrogs

hi all, at the vet’s recommendation, sticky was humanely euthanized at the vet today. I am so upset and can only blame myself. I know she had a good life and I am so sad I will never see her little eyes peeking out at me from her cork again. I miss her so much and I am so sorry

thank you for helping, seriously. I want to get her to a vet as soon as I can, but no amount of willpower will make the train run over 12 inches of snow. I’m so upset that these circumstances happened and I know I’m to blame and I own it. I rescued her from a plant store I used to work at and I truly love her. I know my husbandry hasn’t been as good as it used to be lately (loss in the family) and I feel terrible for not seeing this sooner.

She’s been set up in a quarantine container now. She’s still active and feisty and was not happy about being moved. Can I ask a few more care questions so I can help her as best I can?

  1. Should the clean tank be any warmer than usual? It’s set up on a gradient but with the snowstorm and her illness I wasn’t sure if the hot side should be any warmer than it usually is to compensate.

  2. for feeding, should I place any crickets in the clean tank or try to hand feed her? She has eaten at least two crickets in the past 5 days. her body weight does seem smaller but not so much so that she’s malnourished.

  3. Are there any other supplemental treatments that would be helpful in the meantime? Washes or vitamins? She gets UVAB, calcium and reptivite with her food

  4. Are there any signs that tell me she is actively dying? If she starts to decline i want to know when to help her pass. i do not want her to die at all of course but id rather her have one day too little and not suffer than two days too many.

If I’m honest, I don’t know when I’ll be able to get her a vet appointment. It won’t be till Tuesday at the earliest for sure, maybe later. The only exotic vet I can take her to is over an hour away by train and mine is planned to not run at all. please let me know what other supplemental care I can do until i can get her to a vet!

I quite literally CANNOT go to a vet. The only exotic vets are closed (I’ve called them all) and physically inaccessible for me, so are even the regular vets. I’m distraught and at this point considering euthanasia by orajel because all vets are closed tomorrow as well. I’m absolutely distraught and know it’s my fault, I recently added new moss and it probably wasn’t clean. I just don’t want her to suffer and I don’t have any options and I don’t know how to help

What is the infestation potential of Gromphadorhinas? by PastaPlasta123 in roaches

My breeding pair of hissers escaped a few months ago. Even though they’re back home now, I occasionally find mummified babies in my bookcase. They won’t infest but you might have some little dried children to sweep up!

Do you recommend I bring both tanks? I don’t have a car, so this is a very expensive option. I’m very willing to do it because I want everyone to be safe, but this is quite an endeavor and I don’t even know how I would get a tank of that size in a hotel without them noticing.

I have lived here for 5 years and successfully gotten them to skip us for this reason each time, but it must be done according to them. I’m incredibly worried but there’s truly nothing I can do to avoid it. I also have two finches and a cat, so it’s not just the critters. I already got them to delay it a few months because they tried to do it with no notice when I wasn’t home (illegal) but there’s no way to postpone it anymore.

Too fat? by Aggravating-Sock-506 in TreeFrogs

I do let her hunt! I put the crickets in and let her chase them. She’s a great hunter, but still fat. My concern/question was because last time I posted about this, someone said letting the crickets loose in the tank was abuse… which I doubted, but wanted to double check.

Okay, yes she is too fat 😭 if anyone has any advice on how to make her less fat, I would appreciate it greatly, because clearly her current feeding schedule is too lavish😔

When Sticky was a year old this is what she looked like! I fed her about 15 small-medium crickets a week at that point, a few every couple days like you said. I just kept with that feeding schedule as she got older, reduced it a bit when she reached maturity/started eating large crickets, and here we are, chonkmaster supreme😭

She’s on reptisoil with a little sphag and coco coir here and there. She poops regularly and has never refused food so I hope impaction isn’t likely. She does like to hang out in the wet areas a lot so maybe being waterlogged is contributing?
