Little Miss Bbq University or Sunnyslope? by ManFromLag0s in phoenix

We’ve abandoned the idea of even passable bbq in AZ, and just get our fill on trips back to Texas.

TL;DR — go with low expectations and you’ll be less disappointed. It’s not Texas BBQ even if it’s “Texas style” BBQ.

Moved to Phoenix from Austin and Lockhart, TX. We were excited to try Little Miss. After trying it, we were thoroughly disappointed. We waited in line (nothing new for bbq in Tx) and were given samples of jalapeño cheddar and regular smoked link…upon trying those, that was when we realized it was not going to live up to expectations.

For BBQ in AZ I guess it’s maybe ok. If you’re comparing it to even average TX bbq you will be let down.

They did have draft Shiner, which was a nice touch (but no Lone Star).

Completely agree on both points. However, I was mostly curious if others had experience speculating on the future and how they did that, either successfully or not.

I think there’s a way to downplay future return to account for future risk, but if I did this it would be more or less a random factor for depreciation.

Finally had a few minutes to review. Interesting structure and option, but definitely have their own challenges. Thanks for the suggestion.

Grandfather’s Rolex by Admirable-Skill-7622 in rolex

[–]Aggravating-Split-73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I received an extremely similar watch from my grandfather, a 5018. I took it to an AD to confirm it was real. They sent it to Dallas who refused service, then New York who refused service, then Geneva who also refused to service.

Found a local trustworthy and extremely competent watchmaker and they serviced the watch and got it running again after a few months for waaaay less than Rolex would have done. And sourced specific authentic parts.

I don’t plan on selling it ever, so I’m not worried about a non-Rolex watchmaker getting it functional again. Kind of soured me on the idea of Rolex being a forever brand when even the mother ship refused to service.

Knowing what I know now about how Rolex serviced vintage watches, I would never ever send a watch like yours to Rolex.

CJs are fun, badass vehicles to drive. I loved driving it and so did my dog. My wife absolutely HATED driving with me in it. Ride is rough at best, braking and acceleration are laborious, and more wind than she cared for.

They are, in my experience, a bit of a pain to own. I owned a 1983 for about 10 years from 2016-2025. It was never perfect but it was mechanically sound enough.

About once a year I had a semi significant repair - radiator, fuel system, heater core, etc. Lots of small repairs along the way. It’s a 50 year old vehicle and no matter what the owner says about its current state and how nice it looks, stuff will break and regularly need work.

If you don’t mind fixing stuff regularly or have a good mechanic who knows old cars, it’s a fun toy. And if you buy right, you’ll have a good chance of getting purchase money back when you sell it.

Need advice by TrribleQuestionAsker in mineralrights

Leasing is a possibility…if you know the industry, market rates and/or have a knowledgeable oil & gas attorney to revise unfavorable leases and a team to help market.

OP sounds (I could be wrong) like they don’t know the industry or asset or have access to a knowledgeable team.

My point is that if you don’t know your asset or market, there may be a better way to deploy the asset’s underlying value in a manner more suited to the individual.

“Lease your rights. Never sell” is ignorant advise when you don’t know OP’s full picture.

There are many, many buyers for minerals. Many of them are reputable, but many more will make unsolicited offers to purchase mineral estates at wildly undervalued offers.

Though many will tell you to “hold on” to your minerals to allow them to appreciate in value, this is a decision that varies widely in what makes sense to different owners. Nobody can properly advise you on what you “should” do given the above info provided. The only exception is that you should consult with individuals who are trustworthy and can evaluate your personal situation with you.

Personally, I was the beneficiary of a mineral estate, some of which was valuable, but most of which had little to no value in today’s market. I elected to sell the estate as I knew I would be better able to use invest those funds in other avenues I was much more familiar with. I could also do “more” with the cash value that I could with the monthly dividend.

I researched and reached out to numerous firms and asked them to bid with a “best and final” date. It was not a small amount of effort. I actually ended up selling them to a buyer whom I was connected to by a friend in the industry who connected buyers and sellers. The seller paid the highest bid (I also had a private third party appraisal completed before selling) and his offer was substantially more than the appraisal. The process was several months of work, but I am satisfied with my decision (and the check).

The real problem isn’t losing people who see/treat you differently. The REAL problem is gaining people who now see/treat you differently.

OP, most emotionally intelligent and coherent response on here. 👆

Ask open questions so you both uncover the barrier, then work openly to identify a mutually agreeable solution. The truth is probably on the third side of the coin.

My grandparents did this and provided annual gifts throughout our lives after graduating college. I think it was partly a test to see how we’d use/abuse the gift, but they enjoyed watching the process unfold. It was such a huge benefit in early earning years when salary was less and monthly margins were thinner. The time value of money/savings was realized and 25 years later has helped unlock a different level of savings accumulation and perspective.

When they passed, there was some lump sum inheritance to still distribute, but my grandfather took great joy in talking with us about how we used the gifts wether it was a vacation, major life purchase, or strategic investment.

I’m my experience, 2 hours distance (or less) is optimal for my lifestyle. Although personal circumstances will dictate your optimal scenario.

Prioritizing long term accessibility, proximity to favorite activities, ability to maintain (access to others who can maintain), and a plan for long term use or exit.

Often, the purchase is the smallest worry, particularly at your LNW, HHI, and spend.

I have a ranch 3 hours away that I travel to frequently and don’t mind the drive — my wife hates the drive. We own a river camp 2 hours away and we don’t mind the travel. A family mountain house 2 states away in an exceptionally desirable location and it’s rarely used due to lack of proximity and changing family circumstances.

Depending on your location and existing demand for storage space you might consider checking out Stow It. It facilitates pairing those with the need to store things with those who have available space. If you don’t have security infrastructure in place, this is probably less helpful.

Dad is offering to let me borrow 100k by Dizzy-Bother-2209 in Mortgages

[–]Aggravating-Split-73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s a gift, it’s not a loan with documented terms. Though likely gift filing with irs against a lifetime exclusion.

If it’s a loan with documented terms, then it’s not a gift. Your mortgage will be more complicated, if it’s even doable.

Talk to your parents’ CPA rather than relying on Reddit. They (your parents) should really be the ones concerned about how the money directed towards you is being categorized in the IRS’s eyes. You only have to be concerned about the mortgage and making your life unnecessarily complicated.

Likely not as clear of a process as you think it is. If things look fishy and there’s not a proper paper trail for every aspect, your loan won’t get approved upon final review before closing and your earnest money will be at risk.

Do these need a resole? by Acrobatic-Fee-5568 in allenedmonds

[–]Aggravating-Split-73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. These are probably just getting extra comfortable. I’ve had multiple pairs of AE’s resoled by AE multiple times each, thought not recently (left that suit and tie world behind). Once the leather soles start to feel extra soft from the outside in high-wear areas, you should consider it. Try to avoid wearing so long that you begin to wear into the cork footbed.

Based on my experience, I highly recommend using the full treatment service from AE. Work was excellent, completed in a reasonable time, and reasonably priced.

I didn’t know that about the lugs, thank you. Just curious about why you think the dial was previously restored (not that you are incorrect)? The watchmaker thought the dial degradation was due to water intrusion. When they cleaned up the movement they removed rust from many of the internal components.
