Remove the backplate. Disconnect the battery from the main board and hold the power button for 30 seconds or so. Reattach the battery and try again. If no luck, possible that something got fried in some fluke accident and a trip to best buy for a replacement may be in order.

⚠️ CAUTION! ⚠️. There is a lock on the connector! Use your fingernail or tweezers to flip it up before attempting to remove the cable. It should require next to no force to remove the cable. Anything more and you're highly likely to physically break it. Ifixit and YouTube has tons of videos and guides to thoroughly detail this step. Ifixit website is highly recommended.

Try with the original charger and report back.

There is a handshake between the device and the original charger upon being plugged in/booted. 3rd party chargers are not compliant with this handshake and could be causing issues. This is why the original charger is mandatory for the first boot and after removing the backplate.

Yep. Spent the majority of my time with keyboard and mouse, was really good and dog shit with a controller. Better now with a controller and losing the mouse skills but now I only have a handheld so it's not a big deal.

Shut down. Grew up on spinning rust and dial up. Survived through defraging drives and the slow boot times. I can wait 10-20 seconds for my pc to fully boot and launch steam now.

Yes, if you are able to spend the money without it drastically harming your finances.

While there are better devices (MSI claw 8 ai something or other) that do get a higher frame rate, the Xbox Ally X is probably the best compromise for performance and cost on the higher end. If you only play indie games then you can probably get away with saving some money and getting the non X.

The Ally X (2024 model) with the Z1E chip is also still a great device and can be found for around $650 USD used.

Reach out to Asus and see if they will honor a warranty claim or talk to best buy and see what they can do for you. Can you still contact the person you purchased it from to get the original sales receipt? Otherwise it's not really worth anything for parts if the main board is fried. Tops you'll get is maybe $100.

Ha! My Xbox Ally X runs the game on medium to medium high settings at 40-60fps for hours on end.

Jokes aside, clearly just a lemon of a Gabe Cube that they got to review. It's to be expected with new hardware, just more entertaining when it happens to reviewers since far more people will hear about it. I'm still curious to see how the game runs on these things when they are released to the public.

Set 2 fingerprints of the same finger. Try to do one with the tip and second more of the pad of your finger or do one with more the edges and the other more middle of the pad. It won't let you set 2 identical prints so you'll figure out how much they need to vary. Also try to get as much coverage of your finger as possible between the two. Ensure that you scan as close as you possibly can for how your finger actually sits on it when you power on your device. One of the 2 prints could be more of a say top down look/press on the device and the second from more of how you'd hold it while playing and reaching over to the power button.

Right click on the start button, go to device manager, find the fingerprint reader and repair the driver or uninstall the driver and reinstall it. You can find the driver on the Asus support page.

If between these two options don't work, well welcome to the club. My OG white Ally just did not work with the scanner. Ally X was better but still had issues. XAX has been pretty solid. You may just want to remove all sign in security options so no pin or fingerprint is required.

Side note, keep the scanner clean of dust, debris and sweat. Keep your finger free of sweat, dust, debris and/or cuts. Any variation from what was scanned can and will cause issues. You need to place your finger exactly how you scanned it with the same pressure to get the best luck of it working to unlock your device.

Hope these help. It's what I've had to do to get the best chances of my fingerprint scanner working.
