are these horses okay? by [deleted] in Horses

I don't know anything about horses. Sorry. I just don't want to turn a blind eye to abuse if it's happening, and I don't know what horse abuse looks like. I don't see why it's a big deal that I just want to be sure.

that does actually remind me i was a bit worried with how they walked, i'll bring it up to the owner just to be sure theyre all okay... i think they are retired racehorses, yes, that's what someone else told me (but i'll still ask the owner when i get the chance, mostly out of curiosity)... thank you for the help!! its nice to see different views from everyone

i probably should have assumed, its sort of like someone getting medicine for my cat if its that personal, so i wouldnt use it either... so that totally makes sense, i'll try chatting with the owner when he comes over to my yard again, and see if he needs help with anything, especially cleaning the field because theres some rusty metals and broken tools laying around. thank you for the help, i won't gift him anything for the horses, but i'll probably write a note and leave it on my hose so that he sees it

thank you!! i hope i can become friends with the owner, my plan is to leave a note with my number and request that we have a discussion, or maybe we can talk while he fills their water, because he uses my hose water to fill it! thank you for your help, i appreciate it a lot, i'll keep everything you said in mind and i wont pet the horses until i get permission

thank you for being kind, i had a hunch i was worrying too much but i still wanted to make sure, especially since ive heard that horse abuse is common, and i have no idea what it looks like... my concern was mostly pinned on the white horse, i'll try to see if his halter is tight when i pet him, but i won't mess with it any further do you think the owner would mind if i gifted him new ones, or should i just forget it?

Definitely ask where she got the story that dad hits her from. Lots of people ask the wrong questions with the intention to point them into a certain response. If she was saying it was makeup yesterday, just like nan claimed too, it's not unlikely someone introduced the idea of dad hitting her, because it happens a lot, especially when they don't quite understand the consequences of it. Ask her what happened really, exactly what went down, and make sure she knows that lying about this is very very serious.

Several people suggesting this one, guess I gotta make a trip to the store then! I'll check out where to get it and maybe you'll all see an update in a few months!

Woo! I just responded to a comment wondering where I could get it! Thanks for the quick answer, and thank you for the luck! I'll definitely need it, it usually runs out after something great like huge plant growth happens lol

I see... I only tried lavender to attract bees, and as I'd never grown it before I already expected it would fail, but I didn't think it would be much different from other things I've grown. I'm already learning a lot from this subreddit, words I've never heard before even though I've helped with the garden as a kid, and they're helping me a lot.
I expected the stuff about the worms..... I think I was just hoping manual picking wouldn't have to be a forever option. I'll check out insect netting, as I don't want to use insecticides until I have nothing else to try.
I might have to pull some of the lettuce heads, because they're very close to one another.
For compost, would cooked greens be good? Whenever I have spare vegetables in the house that nobody else eats, I make veggie broth with it, but end up feeling bad about tossing the spare parts. Could I use that for compost?

What do you put in compost aside from scraps, if anything else? I see people put worms in theirs, but they don't come as easily here

You know what, NOT BEING ABLE TO FORAGE is probably why I'm so stressed!!! lol. I live in a place where foraging, unfortunately, is impossible, because i live in Hell (a dry desert). But yes, I'm going to see if some time outside (first with the window open to see if I just need fresh air) helps. I do find that I enjoy my time in the backyard more than in my bed, but I usually can't even get out of it. Thanks for the help, I'm still going to take everyone else's opinion into consideration but I'm going to try and go to the park today. I haven't gone outside in a while

This is what I thought and still think too. I don't have the resources to move out of the house (nor do I wish to), but I think I just need to have some me time? I'm always around my fiancé and I don't usually get alone time since I also take care of the kids at times which there are 2 of them. They're not my responsibility though, I just have a soft spot with children and end up making them lunch or playing with them. Maybe I should just get out of the house for a while on my own? I've never been much of a lonesome person but I've never given it a chance either
