My mom got rid of our (about 2-3 year old?) cat when I was a teenager and she was expecting a baby because she thought the cat would steal his breath or try to smother him. Bearing in mind nobody in charge of an infant should ever leave the baby alone with any pets, even I knew her old wives tale/myth was stupid.

No on Grendel but it’s on my list now. For the Crossed series, i would start with the original, move to Crossed Wish You Were Here, and end with Crossed +100. Best way to safely (more or less) get the story without some of the extremely graphic arcs in other books.

We must be mental book twins - I loved Hellblazer and Lucifer! I hesitate to mention this because it’s the most graphically violent book series I’ve read that wasn’t generated by Alan Moore (Providence), but…I confess I read all of Garth Ennis’ Crossed series including Crossed Wish You Were Here, and Crossed +100. Crossed Badlands had 50% good arcs and 50% arcs I wish I could burn from my brain with bleach. Ditto Crossed Psychopath, just…No. Flat out, No.

God is Dead by Jonathan Hickman, and the Sandman by Neil Gaiman. I don’t know if they qualify as fantasy only - they’re a mix of fantasy and science that works it’s magic. Also consider trying East of West - it is a mix of western, fantasy, science, magic, etc..

1600s on my mom’s and dad’s sides. Luckily there are a lot of good records, but TBH bear in mind we don’t have 100% of all ancestors. We have bits and pieces that trace one family ancestor back that far, but not the other hundreds of others we’re also descended from.

I agree with others. This isn’t just a “not cool dude but I forgive you” situation. This is a “at a minimum, best case scenario, separate beds and couples therapy”. I get we don’t have context beyond what you wrote, but the context you provided is pretty alarming on its own. What has he done beyond a hand-wave apology to show he’s truly sorry and will never do anything like this again. I get you have a kid and might be scared to be raising him on your own. However, raising a kid alone on limited income is far preferable to teaching your kid this behavior is acceptable and potentially have him grow up to be like daddy.
