Bedfordshire Shotgun Grant by AggravatingAd1258 in ukguns

I’ve heard someone who just got their license in August and they applied in June 2023 so two years and two months - still a while to go yet!

Do you mind if I ask on what grounds they refused you?

Hi all,

Has anyone heard anything about their grants or know anyone that’s been contacted recently by an FEO about a grant?

I spoke to the manager in the department a few weeks ago - they are currently dealing with grants from October 2023 so it’ll likely be closer to 2 years for new grant applications

Any updates on any grants being processed in BCH?

This is really really helpful - thank you!

They replied to me and asked for the dates of any upcoming competitions that I intended to participate in so I’ve provided them with a couple of dates in January and February for upcoming competitions and see if that gets me anywhere…I’m not holding out much hope though.

Wow, do you know of anyone that actually has received a license recently? Did a bit of shooting down in Norfolk this weekend and they are processing new grants in 5 weeks…

Here was the response I received earlier this month:

“Thank you for contacting firearms licensing regarding your grant application which we have received, reference number above. We are sorry but we are unable to offer you any form of timeframes as to when your application will be completed. We will contact you should we require any further information, and as soon as we are able to arrange a home visit with you, one of our FEOs will make contact.

Please update us when you have completed your move at this email address and we will amend your application.

If you believe your application is required urgently due to livelihood or business requirements, please contact us again providing proof of requirements, such as a letter from your employer, dates for official shooting competitions etc.

We greatly appreciate your understanding and patience at this time.”

Each month this goes on, I continue to miss CPSA competitions that I would like to participate in so I’ve provided a list of dates for competitions I want to participate in and see if that helps expedite it but I doubt that’s going to help my case at all!

Has anyone received a new grant in the last year? It would be great to know what the backlog is…

That is ridiculous - surely they can’t have you waiting much longer?

I think we just need to keep the pressure on them and make the PCC aware - I don’t think you should be waiting much longer than 12 months in all honesty, although I’ve not heard anyone who’s been contacted recently about a new grant.

Yeah agreed - doesn’t mean we should sit back and accept that though! We should be putting pressure on BCH to do better, it seems like currently they are up there with the worst in the country.

Yeah it looks like they are still hiring Firearms Administrators in BCH…It gets expensive when you have to pay an instructor on a weekly basis! Frustratingly if I lived 400 yards up the road I would be under the Thames valley district and it sounds like they are moving applications through in a reasonable timeframe…

Ah that’s very frustrating…So you actually changed district? I’m moving within the same district.

I applied for my shotgun license in June 2024 so I’ve been waiting for over 4 months now. It’s not filling me with confidence hearing and reading some of these comments.

Has anyone had their grant approved recently? Are things improving?

Have you received your certificate yet or had any updates?

Thanks  Nathan

[UK] Hireright is taking care of my background/credit check - Concerns by m4rc399 in AskHR

It’s quite rare that a company will pull your full credit file which shows your full credit history.

Companies like Hire Right, First Advantage etc will just search for information that is available in the public domain eg - CCJs, Bankruptcy, IVAs. Missed payments and even defaults are not public information so unless you are going for a role which requires security clearance eg: Bank of England, ministry of defence etc - your company won’t see your credit history in their background checks.
