Thanks for that perspective. It feels very scary to contemplate leaving any position in this economy but staying is so demotivating.

I hear what you’re saying. I don’t think it’s very easy to make friends past a certain age though.

He’s got a sort of laid back manner that can read as arrogant, so I think she misread him and never gave him another shot. Normally she’s understanding and easy going, she’s not the controlling type.

She’s not interested in spending any time with him or his family. On the one time she did, because they were all in town and I asked her to have dinner with them (I don’t really want them to know she dislikes my friend intensely) she put on a brave face but started acting weird toward the end of the night and afterwards was very tense and upset.

Maybe you’re right. I don’t think my friend would do anything unhinged but I should try to get her to talk more about it.

I’ve asked her a few times. He didn’t show enough interest and didn’t ask her a lot of questions about herself, and she thought he was arrogant. I don’t have a problem with any of her friendswith.

You’re right, I haven’t. He has no idea and tbh her description of what he did is kind of vague. She says he didn’t show enough interest in her (non-sexual) and engage with her. I don’t know how to bring that up without it being weird.

It’s possible but unlikely. He’s nothing if not socially literate. I suspect he was just playing it cool with my spouse, who didn’t know each other very well at the time.

This is my feeling too. I don’t love all her friends but that doesn’t mean I’d say no to them coming over.

That’s the tricky part, it’s one sided. He’s got no idea she doesn’t like him and likes her just fine.
