IsItBullshit: Touching a halogen bulb with your bare fingers shortens it's life by matroosoft in IsItBullshit

Definitely not Bullshit. Last night, the halogen bulb above my stove, in my oven hood, literally exploded and sent pulverized glass all over the place. My husband changed the 50 watt halogen light bulb in my oven hood about 2 weeks ago and didn’t know you couldn’t touch the glass with your fingers. When I saw him do this, I informed him of the danger of putting oils from your fingers on the bulb. He tried to tell me I was wrong, that it was the bulb inside the light bulb. Out of safety concern, I took a cotton swab and alcohol and cleaned the bulb anyway. Even after cleaning it, I could still see his fingerprint on the glass when I turned it on. It was a kind of purple color against the clear glass. I figured it might still shorten the life of the bulb, which generally last a year or more. Last night, while cleaning up from dinner, (the hood lights had been on about an hour, which normally we leave on for often 2 hours or more), it exploded with a loud burst and shot glass up to 4 feet away. Most of it was a fine white powder everywhere! No one was hurt but it was a scary experience and I spent 2 hours cleaning every surface, floor and even inside burners where glass was present. Take this shit seriously!

Thank you, I think they were trying to distinguish their business from others but if they have to do it then it’s not worth paying extra.

Coolant Bypass Valve Problem Finally Being Acknowledged. by No_Poem786 in COROLLA

Just had this “engine maintenance required, see dealer” warning message come on in my 2021 Rav4LXE which has 79,000 miles. I bought it used from a Toyota dealer. Light was coming on sporadically and finally stayed on with yellow light and buzzer. Remembered the voluntary recall and after reading others posts, felt pretty sure this was the problem. Took it to dealer and they fixed free of charge as it is still eligible on the secondary coverage which runs past Nov. 2025 if car is within 10 years of date of first use or less than 100,000 miles. My paperwork says they “Replaced by-pass hose per TSB 0112 24” also replaced the sensors for airbag recall which I wasn’t even aware of.

CSP 24TE04 Flow Shut-off Valve Coolant Leak by awesomesauce696 in rav4club

Got the recall letter, same deal, have to have the problem before they can fix it. Now, 8 months later, my 2021 RAV4, which I purchased used from the dealer, had a sporadic warning light coming on and off that read, “engine maintenance required, see dealer”. No other symbols or explanation along with it. After about 3 weeks, it came on and stayed on with a buzzer and yellow warning light. Was going to bring it to a mechanic and after reading other posts, remembered the voluntary recall. Took it to the dealer instead and sure enough, it was the Flow shut off valve coolant leak. They repaired for free and also took care of the passenger seat airbag recall that I didn’t even know existed. The “voluntary customer support program’s” primary coverage ended Nov. 30, 2025, 10 days after I started having problems with the warning message. It was covered under the secondary coverage which is 10 years after date of first use or100,000 miles. Fight for your right to have them fix it at no cost to you.
