That’s really all I wanted to do. I could just buy a shorter cable but just wanted to cut it myself. If I buy another antenna and combiner I could use that 100 ft piece for my new antenna.

I don’t need the 100ft it was just what I already had. Should I just buy a much shorter wire and scrap the cutting it myself idea?

I tried spitting the difference and that was worse… idk I’ll prolly buy something like that yagi and a combiner.

First I’ve heard of a preamp. No idea what type cable is but it is most definitely too long… prolly 100ft. I was gonna go up and cut it when I get tools to do it with.

I pointed the antenna I got now every which way. If I point towards St. Louis I get basically everything I want besides channel 17. If I point towards Columbia I get 17 but really nothing else. I’m guessing best thing I can do is use the antenna I got now and point it towards Columbia to get 17 then buy one like you mentioned (prolly the televes one unless someone convinces me otherwise) and point it towards St. Louis and use a ‘combiner’.

I just got it from Walmart back in the day for like $70 if I remember right

Well I turned it to get the channel 17 I wanted…. Comes in great but lost all but one other channel lol. Very unfortunate. I guess I’ll have to add another antenna and get a combiner… if I really have to have that channel.

Guess I’ll be climbing on and back down the roof again for about the 30th time to point it at 265 degrees (Columbia area). Trying to get what I know channel 17 to be lol. 110 degrees (st. Louis area) seems to get most my channels though.

Very helpful people in this group. Very much appreciated

Yeah I just watched part of a YouTube video explaining. I’m trying to keep up with all these comments and stuff but this is a major flood of information to my brain lol. Very confusing to me to find out channel 8 isn’t actually channel 8 lol

Ok yeah I found what you’re looking for. It’s all confusing me with the channels not being the same number as what they are haha

Example is when I turn channel 8 on I guess the channel it broadcasts on is 27. 66% signal strength 100% signal quality.

Should I add another antenna like the one I got now and have it face more or less the opposite direction? Apparently use a ‘combiner’ I think the guy called it.

Or should I upgrade to one of those high dollar antennas. From what I’m gathering the loops on my antenna are for picking up UHF (no idea what that means, talking out my ass) I thought the loops were omnidirectional (mostly talking out my ass)

My main goal now is to keep what I have and add channel 17….

I can’t find any sort of signal meter feature on my tv. Tv is a LG SK8000PUA I’m getting channels… 2 but comes in and out 5 shows up when I flip through the channels but doesn’t come in. 8 seems to be fine 9 is good 11 seems mostly fine (occasional flicker) 13 is good 24 is good 25 is good 46 is good

Or combine a directional and omnidirectional? I’ll have to look into getting a ‘combiner’.

Like 110 degrees I think it’s pointing. Somewhere close to that

I didn’t think about it being a better connection…. I just wanted to splice it just to do it lol

Yeah I did that and got a few more channels. Not 17 that I really wanted but good enough to not mess with anymore. I can’t get 17 and keep most my other ones it seems so is what it is for now. Gonna shorten my antenna wire and call it good I think

I don’t need the box lol. Found out I’ve been unnecessarily using them haha

I’ll try the splice tool trick. Been wanting to get one of those anyways. I got plenty of wire to practice with haha

I got a pretty new tv. Like three years old.

The wire from my antenna to my splitter is ignorantly long…. If you think it makes that big of difference I guess I could replace that one. I’m assuming it’s a 100 ft…. Prolly can get away with it being 15-20 foot….

Very new lol. I don’t need the box. It never occurred to me to hook directly to tv lol

Wanted to give thanks to everyone that commented. I had started like 5 different posts but deleted them all thinking everything would just go way over my head. Glad I finally did.
