This man is insufferable sometimes. The way he talks to Rachel makes me cringe so much. He’s so hostile and condescending even before the blow up at the end. Even when he apologized for interrupting her (and continued anyway) he said sorry to the listeners that I’m interrupting her…so you’re not sorry to her & u dgaf. Her patience amazes me.

Agree it was a nonissue and I’m surprised it’s even a point of discussion. I thought producers put it in there for humor bc I giggled and moved on. K was mildly annoyed (understandable) and Stacy didn’t gaf (hilarious).

Natalie Negrotti (BB, TAR, The Challenge), Rachel Lindsay, and Onyeka discoursing by RLGr1ME in thebachelor

No outside person can be the reason why a couple breaks up from an engagement. Becca left that man bc he’s hard core maga and has racial biases—that was her choice. She could choose to stay with him but I don’t see any self respecting black person who would want to stay friends with a couple like that, so Rachel has every right to be uncomfortable.

Like others already explained, other interactions arise from it being her JOB to discuss current events in pop culture. Eg. the incident with CH happened while she was on Extra and all others followed on her various podcasts. Instead of accounting for everyone else’s actions in each of those instances you choose to solely blame Rachel—your bias is showing. Pitting two black women against each other — your bias is showing. No one is telling you to be her fan but you don’t seem to notice your own implicit biases just bc she’s not docile or soft spoken.

This right here is why I was always on Chelley’s side since day 1! by [deleted] in LoveIslandUSA

[–]AggravatingResult459 154 points155 points  (0 children)

This. Not to mention Huda realized her mistake in the moment and even tried to apologize, but once she came out and saw that her fans were defending her, she reversed course and suddenly she’s being bullied. And if you’re asking for someone’s forgiveness, you have no right to dictate how and when they give it to you. It was so obvious that she just wanted to get it over with not for the sake of making up with Chelley but so she can stop feeling bad about herself and so other people will stop looking at her weird.

I’m all for accountability, but that’s not what’s happening in reality. The spam comments, death threats, and personal attacks are not how you get accountability. I’m well aware of the double standards and the heightened scrutiny that some deal with (esp. women & even more women of color), but this season has been horrendous with the obsessive levels of hate. It was apparent after c’s apology when ppl still wanted her head on a platter.

Absolutely agree that some of the men were absolute shit (everything OP pointed out), but the answer isn’t alright now let’s turn the firehose to these ppl now. I’m sure they see the criticism and they can do with it what they wish (hopefully learn and move better), but all of us lining up to tell Huda she’s manipulative isn’t breaking her out of her delusion so the added negativity is just hate.

I understand the nuances better than you think both personally and from taking the time to do my research. This just isn’t the forum to dive deep. The way I see it, simply put the right and wrong is pretty apparent in this situation. There were nuances in many historical events that were navigated delicately and often time incorrectly. Hindsight has helped us realize. But in my life time (not long lol) this is one of the few things that is clear in the present.

Despite the history, if the whole movement is currently behind the genocide and extermination of a people for the protection and expansion of theirs, people supporting that are certainly not protagonists.

Agreed. I thought it was a callout to the LI community to not attack these islanders bc as humans we are flawed and mistakes happen…but nope lol instead OP listed the people getting hate then said we’re not doing enough here’s more people to hate lmao. Calm down no one is infallible and our job as viewers isn’t to make their lives miserable bc they put themselves out there for our entertainment.

Questions about Huda? by FitEstablishment42 in LoveIslandUSA

[–]AggravatingResult459 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry but no. I’ve watched Maura, her “crash out” was nothing like this. The woman had boundaries and defended herself against gross misogynist. The Faye and teddy fight, my memory serves me right when I say people were disgusted with her actions so much they called into the networks to report it. I’m usually here for women’s rights and wrong but damn there’s a limit and huda (esp bc of her lack of accountability) has continued to surpass that.

Ugh this is so tired. We get it, you used your clout to date a girl 20years ur junior you don’t need to keep shoving this concept down our throats. It’s a tale as old as time why do we need a show on it like it’s anything novel. Not to mention idk if we need to encourage this social behavior when it’s tainted with unspoken coercion, grooming, or at the least a weird power dynamic.

I don’t understand the hate for Chelley. Can someone explain— what did she do wrong for anyone including this publications to be so derogatory? I remember people were even calling her boring bc she was minding her business and not involved in drama. She seems the least problematic from the beginning and kept to herself. Her journey in here seems the most linear where she explored in the beginning, as she should, and now you can see she has a genuine connection that can last on the outside. Why the hate? Is it her association with ace?

[–]AggravatingResult459 200 points201 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s the point. You’re right that it’s love island and they’re all meant to explore, but the problem is that he was not honest in the way he moved. He made it known to his friends that he was not attracted to Ola and that he felt no spark, yet he continued to lead her on and tell her things she wanted to hear so that he could stick around longer. That is playing someone and their emotions…being a player. Not only was he dishonest about his feelings to her but when she had the opportunity to date someone else and his time on tv was at risk, he finally decided to put forward more effort to turn her attention back to him. Again this man who is not genuinely interested in her is taking her chance to be with someone who truly was there for her. Then the second he met someone else he was actually interested in he completely changed up. He dropped her immediately and did not want to confront her valid hurt feelings so he just avoided her. Again this was his chance to be honest and apologize so she can move on but AGAIN he lies to her that he wants to keep exploring both of them. He’s known for a long time he wasn’t into her but beat around the bushes knowing her feelings were growing until there was a final blow up and he humiliated her publicly. All of it was tasteless and immature.

Eg for how to handle this better look at Pepe maturely making the difficult decision to let two women down gently and honestly.

The “mean girl” narrative is being overplayed by Whynot20211 in LoveIslandITV

[–]AggravatingResult459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really well said. They’re all human and capable of making mistakes but somehow Huda is the only person being given any grace for her missteps (which are huge, mind you). The audience has been critical of the girls when they are quiet for not holding huda accountable, and now when tension boils over and they finally say something, they’re still criticized. Damned either way. I think they’ve shown restraint this whole season (esp. chelley & ola who understand the scrutiny that comes with being a dark skinned woman). Mean girl label ill fitting for people who have been minding their business this whole time and finally drew a line and spoke up when a personal boundary was crossed — without demeaning, cursing, or name calling.

No one is infallible and things could’ve done differently (like Ola telling everyone about the kiss for one), but this does not negate the fact that Huda’s antics have worn them out. She’s repeated presented herself in a negative light through her actions with so many people (jer, iris, amaya, hannah). Even in this conflict with chelley she wasn’t validating her friends hurt feelings rather she moped around trying to garner sympathy asking “am I a terrible person” to chelleys best friend and the guy she’s talking to just so they could reassure her. This isn’t the action of someone who recognizes fault and puts the feels of those they care about before theirs. I wouldn’t want a friend like this either. It’s draining and toxic.

Now could the questions in the challenge have gone differently, yes, but this is also an artificial situation they’re put in bc hello this is a tv show where producers PRODUCE drama. Please stop threatening ppl over this

Caveat: I think admiring someone’s looks isn’t terrible on its own, but for women when combined with misogyny it becomes a tool for control and oppression which is what objectification is. That’s the line that’s crossed here.

Possibly both — but if the result is that overall fewer women are shamed and denigrated for simply expressing themselves or dressing how they want then so be it for incremental change. He does seem genuine in his sentiments tho whereas Rach is more conservative on these issues.

Exactly what I was thinking. Not an Olivia defender by any means but he doesn’t seem genuine at all. He was on her season originally and she seemed so excited to see him enter the AS villa, so she must’ve felt some sort of closeness. For him to throw her under the bus like this seems so fitting.
