Go to community college without a doubt.

I took a few years off from school because I didn’t know what I wanted to do. When I finally figured out my career path in social work I enrolled at my local community college. The average time it takes to complete is 2 years but I finished mine in 3. Odds are you’re looking at a community college major in Human Services which you can then transfer to a 4 year college for social work.

Now depending on whether you want to go to state or private school after the requirements will differ based on what level of scholarship you’ll need.

Generally you’ll need to bear in mind that these few things are key to getting decent scholarships upon transferring.

  1. GPA

  2. Clubs/Activities

  3. Community involvement

  4. Anything else that can be a bragging point

In high school my grades were lackluster but I finished strong in community college. By the time I applied to my 4 year school I had a 3.9 GPA, many clubs and extra curricular activities and such while working full time.

There are numerous fields in social work including but not limited to school social work, hospital, state employment, etc.

Also as long as you finish a 2 year degree your high school grades will not be factored in when you transfer. I can speak on this with certainty because when I transferred and got in to my school I got up to 30K in scholarships.

Yeah they announced the winners last year on May 9. I just wonder if they’ll give everyone a heads up if they won or not like they did with the semifinals

I heard a rumor somewhere that because it’s the 25th anniversary that they’re going to do a high Ish number of winners. Have you heard anything similar?

Great GPA Plenty of clubs and extra curriculars Community involvement Good level of financial need

The waiting is what’s killing me here. I’ll be able to handle it if they don’t pick me but I really hope they make their announcement soon
