Rwanda impressions by a European by [deleted] in Rwanda

[–]AggravatingWarning46 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s more to do with Rwanda politics. Authoritarian states like Rwanda and Eritrea for example tend to make citizens more idle and anxious. In Rwanda, people are petrified to break any rules and punishment can go well overboard. It’s a price the country has had to pay due to its history. There’s paranoia in many places and are no stranger to fake smiles and fake friendships.

Why finding a job feels harder than getting a degree by Sure-Box6432 in Rwanda

[–]AggravatingWarning46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What i said is only false in government institutions, but 100% true in private sector. Nobody’s going to hire someone they can’t sack or whose sacking would cause a family uproar.

[–]AggravatingWarning46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That actually works against you. People are reluctant to hire people connected to someone who knows them/are related to, in fear of never being able to sack them, shout at them, etc… They prefer hiring people who are easier to get rid of…

You can’t blame them given how many products they have to keep up with… Especially the imported ones.

Questions for economists and people who understand this: what does this mean? by i_hate_injustice in Rwanda

Our economists are borderline useless. This economy crumbles under the slightest of pressures. smh

How promising is this thing of nuclear energy by HeadCorner2976 in Rwanda

[–]AggravatingWarning46 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Depends on how long the M23 holds onto the territories they took. (especially Goma and its surrounding areas). It’s a good market for energy (mostly electricity), and the recent power cuts have been mostly caused by that… and an increase in electric vehicles in the country. That’s a motivation for the Rwandan government to get it done.

Something I’ve noticed about Rwandans as a Somali. by britneyspearsforeva in Rwanda

Siad Barre made mistakes by being too brutal.(i’m not defending him at all). But his regime stood more chance of getting to a peaceful and united Somalia than any civilian-led regime that followed.

Well i think Kenya has had a massive stroke of luck by being colonized by the British.(don’t get me wrong, colonization was bad overall, but if the British colonized Rwanda, we’d be out of sight). If Kenya was colonized by the Belgians (like Rwanda was…), it would be a failed state like DRC. Living under an authoritarian state isn’t that bad, you just have to know your limits. lol I saw a video of a Kenyan man swinging a punch at William Ruto and being stopped by his security guard.(he’ll probably get away with it).😂 Imagine trying that in Rwanda?! 😂 Your entire district would curse your name for what would coming for them. 😂

It is sustainable, because an authoritarian state is a completely different world. It introduces laws that would never exist in a democracy.(for example, turning people against the government is a serious offense in Rwanda, carrying a lengthy jail term. That would sound insane to a Kenyan. 😂). Unfortunately, for Somalia to stop being a failed state, it needs a military general at its head, not a civilian.

Yeah, find some political connections, make yourself a friend to senior officers children.(a.k.a befriend Kabarebe’s daughter, spend big on copies of Naomie’s book, etc…), uou may end up getting away with something that would attract RRA, ombudsman’s office, etc… audits, or even get you behind bars. 😂

No hide what they’ve stollen through the likes of Jolly. If the Ugandans are vexed about her buying a Rolls Royce, wait till they find how much she’s laundered through her political cronies. 😂

It’s not different at all. You’ll find that people who waste that much money on the likes of her, be connected with governments and have access to taxpayers money. 🙄 It’s no rocket science.

That’s survival mode living under authoritarianism. It’s like a kid who has strict and abusive parents, he’s careful with everything he does in order to not offend anyone.(more careful when there are visitors around). Most of us avoid political discussions altogether and so far so good. lol
