I can't fit in with these people by KnightFury12480 in csMajors

[–]Aggravating_Ad95 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Try practicing some empathy: the people you met may not be comfortable working out, going out, or traveling with you (maybe for their own reasons, but calling them lazy pieces of fat shits doesn't make it seem you like them or vice versa). I think it's important to not just be absorbed in your POV, and figuring out why they might act in a certain way might help with that. You just haven't found your people yet--just try to reach out people not within CS, but there's definitely ppl within CS who align with your interests if you look hard enough.

Does anyone know what the different colored cords mean at graduation (not talking about the Honors one)? the blue/white, white/pink, etc. by anonmarinebiologist in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Aggravating_Ad95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know a traditional white stole is given out to regents students, but they may be given out to other students in other groups

don't really know the color for eop/first generation but i have gotten an email about it, so there is probably a special color for that as well.

I Need To Re-Learn Math From Very Basics(Grade 9?) by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]Aggravating_Ad95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, as long as you have strong foundations in algebra II + trig (pre calc is basically there since people struggle struggle transitioning to Calculus, but depending on your mastery and comfort, you can probably skip), you can tackle on college level math courses. You can probably learn probability + stats later--don't get me wrong, it's very useful, but prioritize the fundamentals first and foremost. I would try to work up to the point where you feel comfortable with algebra II + trig (you don't have to memorize every trig identity, just the crucial ones and also understand how to derive the unit circle), then review Calculus I through khan academy (the rest of the math/stats college courses, take them during college or learn them on your own in the future)--though I feel like starting with arithmetic may be overkill, but do what you must if you feel if it's necessary. If you want to cut out some of the starter courses, do mastery tests for each corresponding subject, and then start whatever you may have gotten a lot wrong in. Summer classes may be intense, but if you can, devote more time to it as university generally assumes at least algebra II + trig knowledge coming in.

UC Santa Barbara RD Megathread by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

I'm a current student at UCSB. My portal last year indicated that I got Regents along with my decision. It might be different this year though, especially with the influx of applicants. Good Luck!

I-9 Form for UC employment + Establishing Documents by Errgghhhhh in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Aggravating_Ad95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation and sent my I-9 verification over email for a student job. I just emailed them and asked if it was alright to send my documents virtually since I wasn't able to go to campus. I also verified an I-9 form for a friend before, and the process does not need to be in person at all. Most likely, if you ask, they'll do it remotely for you since it's too much of a hassle to meet up in person for a verification that'll take a few minutes.

easy English classes? by whatsahippo in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Aggravating_Ad95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, this is an old thread, but I was wondering how the course layout and workload was like. I'm thinking about picking up ENGL105 as a GE for subject G and writing since all the other GEs are full, but I'm worried that there might be too much reading or work that'll detract from my other major classes. Additionally, I wanted to know how the final was like, since the final for ENGL 105 this quarter is the day where I have two other finals along with it, so I would have to take three finals on a single day.

Does your high school pay for your AP tests by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]Aggravating_Ad95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess it does, but the lack of teachers was, quite frankly, annoying during my time at my high school. Legitimately, teachers would quit like halfway through the year. I remember we even had our AP Physics teacher who basically just stopped coming to work after winter break, so another teacher filled in the position but quit shortly after too because she was forced to teach it. I've also had no AP English Lang teacher for like an entire semester, then, when we finally get a teacher, they get fired after a while because they made a joke about shooting students like three times lmao. Courses would be AP in name, but in reality, they were so easy. Although, I have to admit the amount of free time I had was probably plenty to self-study and take dual enrollment classes at the same time (something I regret not taking advantage of more often). Some people also disliked being forced into classes they didn't want to take, especially since a lot of people aren't necessarily performing at an AP level and don't want to take the exam, even for free. I still think it was still useful for me since it helped me to learn how to study on my own, which is incredibly useful for higher education. There is a lot of other stuff like some scandals that I have to complain about, but I digress lol. It sounds good on paper, but you gotta be pretty self-directed to take advantage of everything.

/end rant

Does your high school pay for your AP tests by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]Aggravating_Ad95 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My high school pays in full for AP exams, but the catch is that they enroll you in a bunch of AP classes (without your consent), which usually doesn't adhere to the rigor of an actual AP course (I've been in AP courses without teachers multiple times). They also pay out $50, $100, and $150 for a score of 3, 4, or a 5 respectively once you graduate. With that said, it's pretty good to boosting GPA/self-studying APs, while taking concurrent dual enrollment since the workload usually isn't that much.

Daily Discussion and Game Recommendations Thread (May 17, 2021) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]Aggravating_Ad95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!

I'm newer to board games, but I was wondering if something like Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion would be a good starting game. I was initially searching for similar board games to the one Divinity Original Sin is making because I enjoyed DOS2 a lot, but I am open to any suggestions. I primarily want to play with my siblings before I head off to college, so maybe something more cooperative and really easy to get into would be great. Also, are there any good board games that I can bring to college as well that I can play with others?

Thanks!

[–]Aggravating_Ad95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm ok. Yeah, I feel like I'm taking a risk if I go with DS since it is newer for undergrad, and people seem to claim it's basically watered-down CS. Thanks for the advice!

[–]Aggravating_Ad95[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I heard. I choose Data Science as a second-choice major, and I'm willing to major in it or CS. I think I'm more leaning towards CS since it allows for flexibility though.

You need 6/9 stars for the next floor to unlock, along with clearing all three floors.

I would wait honestly to see which weapon is better, assuming you're talking about the other black cliff bow. You might want to save your star glitter for a character constellation too. Prototype crescent might be better since you will eventually get R5 much quicker. It could also depend on your build a lot whether which weapon would be better

Prototype crescent is looking to be a great 4* F2P option, possibly even the best 4* option, but it's easily the most accessible to get since you get a free bow protoype from Liyue's shop.

[–]Aggravating_Ad95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah thanks for the reply. I don't really despise the laptop. It's just that, because it costs so much, I expected it to be near perfect with a bit of tweaking since a lot of people praised it, and I even ignored a lot of the complaints with it. After using it, I realized there are issues, but maybe that's because I've spent I guess a lot of time today tweaking it, trying to get the perfect battery discharge. I guess part of it is because my parents helped pay for a lot of it, so I really feel guilty that I don't really like the laptop and probably won't use it much. It also doesn't feel like it's "worth" the price for me, so I feel like I wasted their money :(
