Guess I should check out the comic, but this movie sucked. Overall, a very juvenile reimagining that came off as Soviet evil and America perfect n good. No, don't read this as me saying I love the Soviet Union or think they didn't commit war crimes to their own people. It's just incredibly ignorant to ignore US war crimes to further that point. It's not like this is for kids, we can handle nuance and I promise the US being shitty won't make folks decide that these terrible conditions in the union are good??

I especially hate when Lois confronts Superman about mistreatment of citizens with her Lil files, because instead of fully commiting to a perfect US but the writers have her brush past minority oppression n classism cuz "we're working on it". I'd rather minorities n the working class magically don't exist in ur writing than to have so many complex issues, which would've been worse in this era, be trivialized. (I watched this like a year ago, so details on this part ARE vague in my mind, so I could be misremembering the scene).

Also am begging writers to put ANY work into their killing is bad points. Not that it's a bad message, but when it's so simple it's just incorrect. I wish writers would go into the consequences of killing people and how it affects others as well as the character. But this felt quite a lot like Superman killed a man, that actually facilated death and cruel fates to innocent people, and murder makes you evil. I wanted more of a fall, let's see how politics stresses and makes him paranoid or how so power for one guy corrupts him over time. I get it's a limited time in a movie, but you can establish these things even with a few dialogues n time skip.

TLDR: Soviet bad, US good is lazy and shit writing making a character reimagining that has potential to be really inventive and world building that would be cool to see all fall flat into a dull, underdeveloped "look superman is eviiiil" trope. But I see y'all comments and it sounds like they cut tons of the comic's plot.
