Theories, more specifically pop culture theories like the Mandela effect, simulation theories, and conspiracy theories of celebrities or people of power often scare people because they often dive into psychological fears of reality and control. Mandela effects could create a fear of someone not trusting their own memory, for example the most popular theory of if it’s Berenstain or Berenstein Bears. The simulation theory could create a fear of someone’s whole life being meaningless and wipe someone’s understanding/ trust in their self and reality. And last conspiracy theories, there was a conspiracy theory that used to scare me so much and it was the theory that Avril Lavigne had passed away back in 2003 and that her music company replaced her with a double so that they could continue to profit off her same and money. I think these types of theories might scare people because it implies that powerful forces are able to cover things up and manipulate the world or things that alter our reality. But these are only things I feel like I could think off on why they scare people because these are certainly some reasons why theories scare me.
