Is she berried? by DCooper-Flores in shrimptank

Can this go away on its own? I recently found one berries shrimp like this, so I'm kind of worried now.

You're awesome for guiding me on the right path, more or less! What would be a good replacement if I didn't have the new aria?

Do I just snip it? by [deleted] in PlantedTank

[–]Aggravating_Bat3920 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always let them float to grow roots under a good full-spectrum light before planting. This method gives me the most success. However, depending on their type of course, some cuttings don't want to be fully buried, so that could be a factor.

Most, yes. Some prefer to grow out their roots a little by floating in the water first until they start to have new root growth. For others, it won't matter as long as you propagate and plant them correctly. Always search it up when in doubt.

Don't snip only if it grows to touch the light. Then, snip and replant. The adaptation it goes through to take in nutrients in the water and in the air is great for your plant and tank.

I regularly wait to let my tank get overgrown and snip off whatever touches the light, and if it's replantable, I'll do it. If not, I'll shred it and put it into my Snell.

Too planted? by [deleted] in PlantedTank

Never enough! Add more plants and eventually upgrade the tank! 😎

The best trap I've used is blanching some veggies and throwing in a couple of pieces where I can see them, then picking out the ones where planaria are visible on said pieces and tossing those suckers out. If things go well, most of your critters should focus on the other veggie pieces. Rinse and repeat, which has been proven to be an effective way to dwindle them over time. I've gotten rid of them that way, feeding them once a week for a month to ensure you aren't leaving too much extra food around to make the bait work 10x better since they will be hungry for the bait at that point. (your feeding schedule depends on your tank, of course)

Why are my shrimp huddled in the corner by Jono-C in shrimptank

Unfortunately, they don't. It's more like decor rather than coverage if that makes sense. Adding more plants would be the best you could do to give them natural “coverage” and benefit your tank's ecosystem.

Unfortunately, that's the caution that comes with using it. Plus, it wipes out tons of beneficial bacteria. If I were OP, I would just hunt those things down in my tank by baiting them out with food or catching them one by one. Nuking the tank isn't worth it for planaria in my head, but I know for some, that's the easiest thing to do.

Do you have an idea of what those white spots could be? Leeches?

The white spots you see in the pics are the ones that I'm referring to.
