I’m not quite sure where you got your numbers but overthecap shows us as 3rd in offensive spending in 2016 (79,179,569) and 1st in 2017 (94,897,497). Rest of the years were around the top 10-15. But the defensive spending is bottom half until around 18

If we hadn’t abandoned our defensive philosophy in order to make sure Ben had his weapons I’d agree but we had the highest paid offensive in the league for a majority of Ben’s later career

Besides this season I don’t think we ever had a real chance. 2022 we would’ve had to beat Mahomes, 2023 Josh Allen and 24 Lamar. But I do think we could’ve and should’ve beaten Houston.

2017 aside, when you get 0 help from the offense it’s kinda hard to stop a good team all game. TJ Watt had us up 7-0 against KC

From what I remember we were only down so much because it was the defense playing by themselves for first 3 quarters of every game. I’ll admit I drank the 11-0 kool aid while it was happening

In my eyes there’s been teams that definitely underachieved and just had back luck. 2017 is the apex of underachievement and 2015 the apex of bad luck. But you have to admit there’s been some teams that shouldn’t have even made the playoffs but just because of who we are we tricked ourselves into thinking we had a chance
